I have suffered from anxiety for about 5 years folks, I was on effexor and it worked very well for 2 years.

But my anxiety came bacck and has been crippling me since Sunday its hard to even get thorugh the day, I have managed to get into St Pat's from Sunday morning

Anyone have any experience in there? Anxiety has stayed with me for months in the past when I was not on medication, do you think The St Pat's route will make me better much much quicker

I am so scared going in , so so scared,

    Any experience greatly appreciated.

St. Pats may not be necessary, perhaps some additional medication may be helpful, though nobody here can medically advise you, so you need to go back to your doctor and explain how poorly you're feeling.

    Best of luck.

I used to work there. While it's natural to be scared, because you are fearing "the unknown", you will be ok.

There are many different programs available in there to help you. There will be people, both staff and other patients, who understand exactly where you are at.

The interior design is very nice and soft. It's not harsh or stark like a hospital, or like what your perception of a "psychiatric hospital" might be. The wards are lovely!

I know it's not so easy for me to allay your anxiety with this post. If it was you wouldn't need Pat's! But honestly, it's a nice place. You will be looked after and hopefully, set on the road to recovery again.

I'm a patient in there at the moment. Staff are nice. Wards are nice. A decent amount of activities to keep you busy if you have the concentration/motivation to do them. Overall very happy with the place, would not be unhappy if I had to go in again given my experience this time around.

The one main thing I'd stress is that there's nothing wrong or shameful about going into hospital. Sometimes it's a lot better to go into hospital and get something sorted quickly with more intense treatment over a shorter period than spending a much longer period messing with meds outside of hospital.

If you are "indeanswift", then you are in a locked ward.
If you are there, then you need to be there.
If you need to be there chances are you are not in a place yet to appreciate that being there is for YOUR good.

Dean Swift is the only locked ward in the hospital. When you get better you will be transferred to one of the other wards and you will be allowed come and go in the hospital as you wish.

I suggest you concentrate hard on getting better. If you think the nurses are being too hard on you, think about what they are doing.. are they being hard on you OR are they just not allowing you do what you want.

    There's a difference in the 2.

Take care of yourself, don't think everyone is picking on you, and know that at the end of the day you need to get better for YOURSELF... not the nurses.

OP hasn't been back to the thread so I am locking this.
