Replacing flakey Sky+ box with second-hand Sky HD box

My old Sky+ box is on it's last legs. Thinking of buying a new/second-hand Sky HD box to replace it. Is it just simply a matter of plugging out the old one and plugging in the new one? Will my existing card be ok - with no HD subscription?

    Indeed it will.

Simple plug and play will get you all the lower tier packs, RTE/TV3/BBC, music channels, documentary, kids channels etc.

However, if you're on a sky sports or movies sub then you will need to contact sky and get them to pair your card with the new HD box. Otherwise you can't view them.

They usually just ask what the serial number and EPG software version of the HD box is.

OK, cheers. Have a sports sub so will call them.

Also, I'm just wondering now when I think of it, as I'm still in contract would they replace the box for me?

If you were thinking of cancelling and going to say... UPC, they might well do :)

OK yeah if he's not been with them 12 months then it might be a bit trickier.

Also, if you are running Magic eyes or have your plus box connected to a distribution system, you'll need to take note of the RF out setting and input it to the HD box, and enable the power too.
The newer HD boxes only have one scart, so if you had a DVD or VCR looped through your plus box, you'll need to reconfigure your connections to compensate for this.
