Singer Sewing Machine

    Hi folks,

I was just talking to my friend who bought a Singer sewing machine in argos about 2 years ago on impulse. She never used it until about 3 weeks ago. when she did use it it wasnt working properly so she took it to singers corner in cork to get it fixed. the other day they rang her back to say it wasnt actually a singer sewing machine and that they couldnt repair it for her. They said that they have had a few people coming in with these machines that are being sold in argos as singer but arent actually genuine singer machines.

Has she any case for a refund, replacement or repair from argos or is it just a case of buyer beware?

    Thanks for any help.

    Donie

Ask Argos for a full refund based on the fact that you bought the machine thinking it was a specific recognised and respected brand which clearly it is not. If they refuse, go back to Singer and ask them if they'll bankroll you to take a case against them. If the shop in Cork is just an approved repair centre run by a local guy, see if you can contact Singer's head office legal department, outline the situation, tell them you can't afford litigation, explain exactly who Argos are and ask them if they'll bring them to court on the basis of trade mark infringement using your case as evidence.

I had a problem with a singer bought in Argos,(accidental damage)
From the owners literature supplied with the machine, I got through to support@singerco.co.uk They solved my parts problem, and they are a most helpful company to deal with. I highly recommend them.
Otherwise the singer company in Drumcondra,a very knowledgeable mechanic.
