Does anyone know what this option is or what it does? I only saw it last week for the first time in the iPod app on my 3Gs:

Looks like an AirPlay device on your network.

Would it have to be something in my vicinity? As in when I'm in the office, the gym, or my car it's always there and I never connected to anything for airplay before. It's not a big deal, it's just something I don't understand and it was never there before.

It's lamenting that you listen to djent music and is trying to inject some culture in your life (kidding I hear tesseract are great)

For airplay options to appear you have to be connected to the same wifi as the device, so office maybe but not your car or gym. Check it again and confirm.

Actually next time it does appear, select it and tesseract will blast out the speakers allowing you to locate them and give the owner a fright!

Did you find out what speakers they were?

Nope no idea what speakers, surely I would have had to connect to them intentionally before for them to appear in that list, so that's part of what confuses me. But for the last two weeks I've also been getting notifications while listening to music, the music stops and the phone says "This Device is not Optimized for iPhone usage or something like that" and I've to plug my headphones out and back in again for them to work. I used always think it was just in relation to the amount I sweat in the gym, only really seems to happen in there and I was wondering if some of the sweat gets in the phone and made it behave a bit funny, but perhaps it's just in relation to the Jane Eyre thing.

None of this makes my phone unusable or anything, just if I'm planning on selling it in the future I'd like to be selling something that I know works fine without any weird quirks!
