Hi all just a word to anyone getting a new pup I bought a cracker of a lab a real little dinger great personalty the lot he had it all a dream to train when I bought him he was advertised as "fully vacinated" I asked the question and the breeder confirmed the same had him for 4 months then one day he stopped eating with in 5 days 2 of which he spent in the vets hospital he was dead after contracting weils on his vac cert the vet advised me he ha only been injected against parvo (no indication on the vac cert only injection labels) I feel very responcible and stupid not to get it checked (i did meet a vet down the town and advised thim that my dog has got injections but I am not sure what one he told me it was the 7 in 1 so he will just need a booster) I know I lost a great dog and I will never forget it the bond we had was fantastic I feel as if I have lost my shadow on my lonely walks I meet people regulary out with pups and I ask them about their dogs injections they tell me a the same as what the breeder told me "he/she was done before I got got him/her" when I tell my story some people listen and some couldn't care less about getting the dog checked I hope reading this that someone will not take the chance of hoping there dog will be ok.
This was my first dog and I will always feel responcible for his death it cost me 800 euro in vets frees which is not important I would have gladly paid for his jabs if I knew he needed them and wouldn't have haggled the price with the breeder I was sold on him as soon as I seen him.
Hope this save someone else the the heartake and sham and please dont get the handbags and slate me out I feel bad enough.

I know how you feel mate.

I lost my English Pointer to the same thing. Only it was my fault. Dad was in charge of the dog for the years I was in college and never got her vaccinated. When I came back I took charge of her. I knew she wasn't vaccinated but didn't think it was important; I thought about getting it done- but I was on the dole at the time (£52 a week up here) and decided it wasn't worth it.

Have a German Pointer now and she's getting vaccinated at hallowe'en and so's the other English Pointer- I wont make the same mistake again.

Sorry to hear that! I can imagine how gutted you are, i always vaccinate my new pups even if the seller has said that they are already done.

Just remember, You "can not" over vaccinate a dog...

Thanks pal I feel like a sham writing a post like that but if it can save someone elses pup or child I will do it, I am very sorry the hear about your pointer I know whats its like man I never tought for a minit when I was getting him I would be so attached I lost my shadow that day all the fun was sucked out of the house, my fella died himself and alone I couldn't bring him home to be burried, I am sure if your pointer had a last sentance to say she wouldn't be blaming you she would thank you for the times you had when she was healty.

for all who dont know weils is contracted from infected rats urine rats dont stop to pi55 the just run around dripping the bactirea infects water, mostly still water and is also contractible to humans so an infected dog licking a child face can be faitale.

Thanks for your reply pal and again sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear bout that man, its not easy losing a dog. Unfortunately this is not first instance ive heard of this happening, and it ll prob happen again when there s an element of breeders just in it for the cash and not for the love of the animals. It ll take time to get over loss but i hope it hasnt put you off getting dog again in future..

Thanks pal it is very common according to the vet it is a way of keeping profit up if i was told i would have got him vaced no problem at all.
I have decided to do it again next year when the sping comes in so I am not just going to replace him this sounds mad and probally weird but that dog gave me direction and I know what I have to give to the next lucky dog and I will be from next spring a dog owner again and for life, the next dog will be treated the same with out comparing he will be so lucky as I am now all things dogs and know that the life I can give to my next dog will be one he will enjoy to the max the last fella never had a bad day never we done everything together I was leaving for work at the last second because I was spending all my time with him and rushing home to see him the next lad will get the same..

All dogs if used for ratting or who go after rats around the farm should be checked by the vet for this.

Infected animals from deer to sheep can transmit this disease and slaughter men can get infected.

Weils disease can be fatal to humans and you can be infected by you coming in to contact with rat urine/waste around your home or out in a stream/river.

When i was young a council worker died of it working on a stream near to our school.

Sorry to hear about your dog.

I always get any pup that I buy, re-vaccinated, just for piece of mind. On a couple of occasions I have had pups that had been vaccinated with one brand for their first injection by the breeder and when I went to the vet for the second injection it turns out that they use a different brand.

I bred a litter of pups this year I wormed them but I didn't vaccinate them. I let the buyers know that they weren't vaccinated and that it was up to them to get them vaccinated themselves, that way if anything went wrong it wouldn't be my fault.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056405077

Bring my little fella down later to get everything all over again. I had him out thinking everything was ok regard vaccinations etc.. Turns out he never had a parvo injection, and I am not sure what he did have so it's best I just get them all over again.

So sorry to hear about your story. Tragic all because the breeder lied to you, I can't understand what they will gain for lying. Just say it is not vaccinated and let that be the end of it. If it is prove it with proper certs.

This seem to be pretty serious at the moment and I defiently wouldn't belive anything anyone says about injections unless I personally see the needle going in. As far as I am concerned if I don't see that then it has not got anything!
