Just wondering if anyone has experience with this.

Will be travelling to Bali next week and want to know if you need an International Drivers License?

Been looking online and that does seem to be the case.

Don't mind getting one, just living in the Netherlands but have an Irish driving license which is fully valid here.

Can I walk into the ANWB (AA) office and get an IDL ?

Whats the story if you have a Foreign license in Ireland and want to get and IDL ?

Understand Im late enough as to make my response totally irrelevant as you ve probably holidayed there and back in Holland again by now, but incase for some reason someones wondering similar points here goes.

Officially you need an IDL in addition to your normal full license for Indonesia. And its certainly wise as things can get tricky if you are found without it.

You can walk into the AA shop, 56 Drury Street, Dublin...if you re in Ireland. If you re not you can apply and get it sent to you via snail mail. Check here for info and applying. http://www.aaireland.ie/AA/Motoring-advice/Driving-in-Europe/International-driving-permit.aspx

Having a foreign license in Ireland and wanting IDL? As I know, its normally a matter for the authority who issued your license to provide you with a IDL. Copied from the AA website "An IDP is also available to EU/EEA* Licence holders who are also resident in Ireland." When in Australia, on my way to Indonesia, I had to apply to the AA and they sent it out from Ireland.

Well too late for the info but just in time to say I hope you had a good time in Bali! ;)

Yes you need IDL. I was there earlier in the year. They are €5 from an AA office. I got mine near Fade Street in Dublin 2.

I did get stopped by the police while on a moped for supposed driving on the wring side of the road (there is no wrong side of the road for the most part over there!).

I didn't have my licence on me so he took the bikes registration (linked to the hotel I was staying at) and sent me off to an ATM to get him R300,000 (about €27) fine because I didn't have my IDL on me. I told him I had no money and flew back to the hotel and got my IDL and guide book.

Came back and he was still demanding R300,000. The fine for no licence is R50,000 so I demanded a receipt for the fine, him to sign what I'd been fined for and how much he'd charged me and get his photo with his signed statement. he wasn't happy with this and tried to tell me I'd have to go to the city to get a receipt. Long story short I slipped him R100,000 and that was it.
They might try to catch you out because your a foreigner!

Bali is a beautiful place but man the roads there can be crazy sometimes!! The going thing is usually finding a driver to take you around, they're cheap and friendly folk too... every couple of hundred yards along the beaches someone will offer to be your driver and guide. Have fun :)
