So decided to built another Mame cab/console. This time thinking of more a console size mini-itx based unit, something I can plug into any tv.

The mini-itx board I'm getting is pretty decent and well above what's needed for Mame so think this would make a handy media player as well. Would like to be able to playback stuff from usb port and upnp servers.

Anyone integrated an decent media player into Hyperspin ?

I know I could go the other way and integrate Mame into Xbmc or similar but really would prefer to keep Hyperspin as the primary frontend so the box would be appear as a games machine with movies on the side rather than the other way around.

Media Centres in the traditional sense (e.g. a PC connected to the AV ports of a TV) are not really necessary nowadays.

If your TV is a recent model, you can connect it to your home network and actually browse/playback the content of shared folders of the PC's on the network. In windows 7 you can also push content directly to your PC by right clicking the media and selecting "play to".

A third mame cab in the house isn't really necessary either :) I've already got a consoles capable of DLNA, just really looking to add a something extra on this next build.
Anyhows, turns out it should be fairly simple to do, just use Hyperspin to launch XBMC with a severely modified theme that defaults straight to the video selection screens.
