But I thought it needs to say TNT HD or Freeview HD for it to have an mpeg4 tuner built in. Anyone know for sure?

No not necessarily. Whilst Freeview SD spec is MPEG2, MPEG4 "tuners" can actually decode MPEG2 - its actually a hardware chip. Its rare to see an mpeg2 chip these days. Most LGs and Samsungs are PAn European so thats why they have an MPEG4 chip (which more than fullfills the Freeview SD video requirement but not Freeview HD who use DVB-T2 - diffrent tuner module). We of course use DVB-T and MPEG4 AVC.

So you just have to look out for MPEG4 /AVC under DVB-T tuner. It is safe to assume that the TV wont have short written firmware to prevent the TV tuning in Saorview stations, unless it is a Panasonic.

Will it work for Saorview ? Yes.

The LG xxLD450 is Freeview and works perfect on Saorview. The xxLD490 is "Freeview HD" but is for UK market only, so while it receives all the Saorview channels and does Interactive, it's slightly incompatible, inferior to the xxLD450 series for Ireland, unless you are near N.I. and want UK HD when it starts in N.I. end 2012/start 2013.

So it's a little confusing. If they claim Saorview, it has to be 100% or they have to refund you. Never worry about "Freeview HD" unless you receive Wales or N.I.

The TV is Saorview approved - http://www.saorview.ie/products-retailers/saorview-approved-product-listings/lg/
