Cold Water DE Shaving...

So after reading many debates on the topic I tried it for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. Had a very good shave and once you get over the initial "sh*t, this is cold" feeling it's very smooth.
Obviously I used warm water to lather up in the bowl but cold water was used for everything else.
I felt I was able to shave faster without the risk of incurring a nick. That was with 4 days growth which I often find to give a smoother shave compared to one day's growth.
    Zero irritation too.
I'll try it again tomorrow morning. Has anyone else here given it a go?

    Interesting read here...

Yeah I've done it a few times. Mainly when there was no hot water in the house. Cold lather is an interesting sensation. Although it can be great if you are a fan of mentholated shave soaps/creams.

Never had a bad shave doing it, but I just prefer a warmer shave,

and coming into winter I think I won't be brave enough to keep up the cold water shaving, perhaps tepid water :D

I'm going to need a shave in the morning, so I'll give this a shot and report back. That blog is very interesting too! :D

Turns out it's pretty much the exact same as shaving with hot water, usual hot towel prep excepted. Prep time was quicker, face feels good and smooth now, and less energy used over all.

    Next step: cold showers...

I had a cold shave this morning too. Very refreshing but a bit of a shock to the system. I'm going to continue for the rest of the week and see if I get used to the cold water.

The quality of shave was pretty much the same as with warm water.

That blog in your OP is full of manly ideas, but that one is the easiest! :D

Hot -> warm -> cool -> cold water. Wasn't too bad at all, even on a cold day like today.

I'll definitely keep trying the cold water shaving (not sure about the shower though!!).

After my first cold water shave I was happy with the results so after my second time I was a bit disappointed, lots of nicks..obviously my technique was poor that day:o

I had a fair few nicks after my third pass yesterday, but I think that was due more to the blade needing changing. I'll post here when I've tried it with a new blade.

My second day in a row for a cold straight shave and the results were good again.

I'm going to finish out this week cold shaving (none of this hot towel business or warm lather nonsense you two are up to :P) and see how my skin feels after it.

well I don't do the hot towel/hot water treatment but yes, I do use warm water for the lathering.

I think you should try a shave with cold lather. It's a feeling I think you'd have to grow accustomed to if you were to do it every day.

I've shaved with cold lather a few times. Mostly because it took me a stupidly long time to figure out how to heat my bowl properly. :o I always splashed with warm water in between passes though.

Going all-out with old water and lather in the morning.
