    http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/food/is-this-chicken-too-sexy-peta-thinks-so-2572348/

The "pin-up" style photo of a raw chicken lounging seductively ran in Wednesday's food section of the New York Times along with a story on the appeal of crispy, savory chicken skin. Now the animal cruelty prevention organization is aiming their laser-beam target at the old gray lady.

"When I saw it I just couldn't believe that an editor of The New York Times would find it acceptable," PETA's founder and president Ingrid Newkirk told The Atlantic Wire. "It's downright offensive, not just to people who care about animals but almost to everyone. It's a plucked, beheaded, young chicken in a young pose," she said.

Tina Loit, the Times photo editor who commissioned the shoot didn't see it that way. "That chicken had attitude," she said of the model, who was propped into a come-hither position with the help of weights and wire.

The image was intended as a humorous, eye-catching approach to your standard food fetish art. But PETA's Newkirk is calling it necrophilia.

Maybe he's mad that the Times stole a signature PETA move. For years, their print and commercial campaigns have relied on sex, particularly naked women, to attract media attention. Sex has become so synonymous with PETA, they're launching a pornography site linked, inexplicably, to their animal rights message. So what's so bad about a lounging chicken?

If anything, PETA should be thanking the Times. After staring long enough at the photo of this goose-pimpled, cross-legged, headless lady-harlot, I may never eat another chicken again.

People not wanting animals to suffer- ya know what- fine. But this is a bit ott.

Peta are mental. They criticised the Palestinians for using a donkey as a bomb carrier, they kill animals themselves when they don't have room to house them, I think we should just lock them up with some lions for a while and introduce them to the food chain.

I assume the chicken was already dead.

    Mmmmm, chicken.

PETA are a stupid, and increasingly irrelevant organisation. Meat eaters like Jamie Oliver have done more to progress the ethical treatment of animals than they ever will.

What exactly is her problem with the picture? And what is the picture even advertising?

Im just back from 2 weeks in the US, and tbh the more non-processed food they advertise the better. The amount of crap food I saw was unreal.

Edit: Also, the picture reminded me of this:

Q: How many PETA members does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: Zero, Peta can't change anything.

My favourite thing about PETA is that their Senior Vice President Mary Beth Sweetland is diabetic, and her insulin shots contains animal products.

Sweetland injects herself daily with insulin that was tested on animals; she has conceded that her medicine “still contains some animal products -- and I have no qualms about it…. I don’t see myself as a hypocrite. I need my life to fight for the rights of animals.”

Translation: "I need animals to be killed so I can stay alive to stand up for animal rights!"

PETA are utter morons. End of.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I only use one argument when it comes to those loons in PETA. If we don't eat the animals, they'll eat us. We've all seen the cows in the fields planning their revenge. Don't let them get the upper hand.

When people find out I'm veggie they're like "oh one of those PETA nutters" eh f*ck no! Go on the site occasionally to look for recipies and saw vegan condoms on the homepage

PETA give actual people who care about animals a bad name :(

Did anyone see the ad that was banned from the superbowl, like models in their undies sucking cucumbers and stuff. So it's ok to exploit women but not animals. Such hypocrites!

How come no one has said "I'm a member of PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals" yet?
