You might also consider the Atlantic Coast Challenge (I think) playin Carne, Enniscrone and Rosses for the princely sum of 120 notes, but in a competitive atmosphere .. tryin to rustle up some interest meself with our lads

I've had a look at it with the intent to organising a mini-trip away for a few people up that direction.
Is there an obvious recommendation for a venue to use as a base with the golf in mind?

Philip .. if it's the Atlantic Coast Challenge that yer lookin at, the courses concerned, Carne, Enniscrone & Rosses don't really lend themselves to a central base ... think it's around a 2.45 drive from Sligo to (Belmullet, Carne). We're lookin @ either Ballina or Westport for the Carne & Enniscrone leg, then 1 night in Sligo for Rosses the following day ..

Played it last month with a group of 12 - Enniscrone and Rosses on the days the hurricane hit the north west coast. Only other people out in Enniscrone on the day were 4 Swedes, they were in buggies the lightweights! Will definetly be back again and hopefully with conditions a little more benign.

We stayed in the Best Western Sligo (beside the bus / train station) and couldn't fault them, they looked after us very well. Think it was €120 for 3 nights B&B and 1 evening meal pps.

Did the Sligo links pass about a month ago and stayed in Enniscrone first night then in Best Western in Sligo the second night. They are a little far away to base yourself in the one place and Enniscrone is a grand little spot to spend a night anyhow - we stayed in the waterfront which I would highly recommend. (We did 36 on the first day so only required two night accom)

    Hi,
I know from first hand experience that the clubs around there are desperate for Green Fees. There are great deals to be had if you're good enough at bargaining! The Sligo Pass sounds like great value: if you have a group, I'd say you could get even better value.
Here's my assessment of the courses:
Carne (Belmullet): 2 1/2 hours from Sligo. Wild and unspoilt, it's a long way to drive from anywhere except Mayo but I think it's well worth it. There are a few sand dunes there that are so high that even if you could see your ball a the bottom, you probably woudn't go down to get it!
Enniscrone: 45 mins from Sligo. Another good links test but not as picturesque as the rest, still some very good holes there.
Strandhill: 10 mins from Sligo. Quite tight layout, some poor holes but some very good holes too (16th, 17th 18th par-par-par is a good finish any day!)
Rosses Point: 10 mins from Sligo. In my opinion the best around. They have put in some new tees over the last couple of years. West of Ireland on there every Easter, Home Internationals were on there last month. It has an easy enough start but gets tough from around the 6th onwards especially if you play between May and Sept when the rough is long (same for all courses mentioned).
Murvagh (Co. Donegal) 40 mins from Sligo. This is a great track also, it'd be a shame not to tackle this one while you're at it.

From the area originally so played all 3 over my last 2 weekends home.. all 3 accomodated us over the weekend (even though the pass says Mon-Fri). Well worth the money.

Am a member of strandhill (and club secretary) - if you are basing yourself for these 3 courses me recommendation would be to drive straight to enniscrone (45 minute drive from sligo, 2.5 hours from lucan)the first day and then base yourself in sligo for the next 2 nights.
If its town centre/socially accessible hotel go for the glasshouse or best western/southern hotel beside the train station.
Sligo Park is a nice hotel but 1 mile from town centre.
Clarion(1.5 miles) and Radisson (3 miles) are also nice hotels but are a little bit out.
If you want to book your pass ring 0719168725 (golf shop strandhill) and ask for anthony or paul and they will sort you out straight away.
If anyone is having trouble playing at the weekend in strandhill pm me and i will sort it out.
PM me also if you have any questions regarding accomodation , food or anything(except brothels, cant help you there)
Clubs in the north west are struggling financially (but where is not) but the hotels are in the same boat.
Send an email to the 5 hotels(cc'ing the other 4 asking for their best deal and you might be surprised at the value you can get).
