i find that the average miles per gallon differs form where you fill up, i do roughly the same amount of driving every week.

last week i filled up at a topaz and put 30 euro in and it done the whole week and this week i filled up at tesco another 30 euro and it barely done me the half week so i topped up yesterday with 20 euro and its the petorl light is already on.

does this happen to anyone else?? and where do you think you get the best value for money on petrol.

It's a false economy to buy cheap petrol.
You wanna get the real good stuff. Go like a rocket.

Unless you can work out the MPG, your just guessing. €30 with "roughly" the same driving means nothing.

Well, maybe you shouldn't be laughing so hard - it is possible to water down petrol. Some stations have been done for doing so.

sorry?WATER??water will ruin a car,do you mean the ones that clean green
    diesel?

It is not possible to water down petrol (one of the reasons is that hydrocarbons are hydrophobic so they can't mix).

Well; It is possible to put water in the gas tank - sure. But not without causing conditions which requires repair and flushing of the fuel system. Which I seriously doubt any petrol station would risk being liable for to save a few cents. Old wives tales or you got sources?

Never happens to me. When I fill up, it's never exactly €30.

Not sure that there's enough room on this thread to discuss that.

Watering down is not possible but they can change the pump pressure.

Petrol can be watered down with additives. I wasn't suggesting that it was water, though that has been done in Australia with disasterous consequences...

What's this public transport you speak of?

It's pretty much non existant in most parts of the country that aren't cities.

Topaz is a sly PR move by Shell. Notice that Ireland is the only country that you'll see a 'Topaz' garage in..

Quick question - apologies if it's a stupid one - but I find when I fill up at Tesco, it can take a few seconds from when I start pumping to when I hear the petrol actually coming through (although the meter has started charging from the off), whereas in other stations, the petrol comes out immediately after I start pumping.

Is it possible that certain pumps can be 'delayed'? (If you get me..:o)

This. OP, the only way you can really tell is by resetting your clock every time you fill your car, and always fill your car up and not just put €30 in.

Another way is not by filling up by €20, but by filling up by 15 gallons etc, so that even though the price may be different, you will get the exact same driving after each fill up.

its the car you drive vs the quality of the petrol...

i mean these threads have been done to death but generally the higher performance/displacement the better the gains you get from better petrol = higher mpg.

Are you driving a 5 litre? I've a V6 3 litre and I get more than that out of it.

    What a tool....

So you really tink that 1 or 2 cent (or even 5 for that matter ) is really gonna make that much difference? Do the math?

    30ltrs x 1.50 = 45
    30ltrs x 1.55 = 46.50

Which I dont tink equates to one or 2 extra days driving!!

Ive noticed that aswell OP, I put in usually 50 most weeks that seems to do me the week, but some weeks it doesnt.. Sometimes out by a day - which = 10 of petrol :( Havent really noticed if its the garage I go to tho, must start checking this :)
