Hi Guys, I just had partial dentures fitted to top and bottom gums. The bottom fits good but the top one rocks from front to back when i bite or chew, as is quiet uncomfortable is this common in the early stages and will it fit better when the gums are fully healed. My main concern is will the denture settle into my gums for a better fit or will i need to get new upper dentures. Any advice is welcome.

    Cheers

I had a partial upper denture few years back, was only 1 tooth on it.i couldnt eat with it in due to it moving around,i certainly couldnt use the tooth on it to bite with any pressure into a chocolate bar or soemthing that was any way hard, a tough bit of steak or watever. after about an hour of wearing it the polygrip denture adhesive gel stuff id put on it would disolve so the little bit of support i had was gone,it wouldnt feel very stuck in place any of the time

as far as i know yours wont feel perfect for a few months time, you need to go back when your gums are healed and get it adjusted.it should be alot better then.also if you just got the teeth out recently and the denture done then this could be your temporary denture and the dentist will give you your permanent denture when you go back in 5 - 6 months time

It shouldn't rock & it damage the underlying tissues. However if you had teeth extracted just before having the denture placed the tissues maybe swollen which could settle down.
Probably best to go back to the dentist as a slight adjust may be required, or a reline of the plate or a complete remake.
Is it a metal based denture or an acrylic (plastic) one?
