1% of packets dropping when i ping a computer on a small office network.

am i right in saying running a constant ping to 127.0.0.1 will eliminate the pc being the issue once there are now packets dropping and i should be looking at the network cabling / switch !?

In theory pinging 127.0.0.1 should eliminate external hardware (although I'm not sure whether the loopback address gets assigned to the actual NIC in Windows, or a virtual interface as with other operating systems).

Try pinging with larger packets and see if this makes things worse. If so, it sounds like you might have an overloaded switch.
