Ballinastoe repairs

I was at Ballinastoe today and came accross some trails that are under repair. These repairs are ongoing till the 14th of October.

There are signs at the entrance to the trail saying that it is under repair or is freshly laid and needs to rest so don't ride on it.

The alternative to riding the trail is to use the fire road instead but obviously people are ignoring these signs as tyre tracks are already worn into the freshly laid gravel.

I got chatting to one of the workmen and he was fairly pissed off with riders ignoring the signs and using the trails they have been asked to stay off.

He was saying they need time to bed down. I know nothing about trail building or repairs but it seemed logical for the new surface to need some
    time to settle.

I presume as the works continue over the following few weeks more trails will be repaired and so need time to rest therefore reducing the amount of available trails for use.

So maybe while the work is ongoing riders might go elsewhere for the next few weeks. I'm sure it would benefit everyone in the long run.

I'm not having a go at anyone here I'm just making an observation.

    Thanks for reading.

So much for Oct 14th. I was up there at the weekend and there are 2 sections closed which are still still under repair (the section at the top before the rock-fields and a section at the return loop near the end).
They've removed a few of the large rocks in places which makes things a bit faster but they seem to have gone crazy with putting gravel everywhere, including at corners which can get interesting! I'm sure it'll bed down over time though. Respect to them for the repair works all the same.

While some repairs were needed and all the short cuts that bikers had made (Cutting corners and going around rocks and stumps) have been put back to the way they should be I think they have put to much hardcore over some of the tricky fun sections which is a shame as they helped people improve there skills..:(
