See in the journal today where they reckon GOOD beef nuts/ meal can be got for EUR230-250.
They mustnt be shopping around the same areas I am.

Anyone out there seeing these prices or is 260-280 more realistic like I am being quoted for blown in ration (16%).

All I get from the REPS is the usual guff about how good their stuff is and that they have cheaper meal but they are doin me a big favour not selling it to me:D

well when the base ingredients of any ration in Ireland barley/wheat are costing around €210 to the miller after hauling, drying rolling, handling, credit. I doubt they can turn out a decent mix wit say wheat or barley included at 40% for €230 when delivery, credit is taken into account. There are not many ingredients available for sub €200 for millers to formulate a decent ration.

looking myself at the moment, red mills 17% beef hi grain 310 euros, have found a 5 way mix for 220 collected, but the guy that supplies it has to wait and see if there will be a demand before he gets it.

My father worked in milling for years. he recons that nuts are only a disguise for the poor quality of the material going into them.

His firm belief is that the cheaper the feed, the poorer quality it is!

Mill owners didn't make the money to buy their new mercedes by selling feed cheaply. Although some sell cheap feed IYKWIM

the first 4 ingredient should be wheat, barley, soya , distillers... if there is a high amount of palm kernal or sunflower meal steer clear:)

we get the nuts tested regularly , once in the last 5 years the nuts where way off what they where supposed to be, think there is a 10% tolerance level, turned out the 21% nut was only a 17% nut... this company is no longer in business:rolleyes:

    Cash is still king..
Our local supplier is charging €10 extra if you put the meal on account.. Bought Pattons 16% Beef for €248 a ton, collected. Never bought Pattons before so thought it was worth a try..

But mixed rations can be hit and miss too.. we bought some weanlin mix two years ago and thought the results were very poor, switched to Beef nuts and were much happier with the results.. have to admit though we're more trial and error than science

Been buying from Pattons for 4 years now. They have the best quality feed in this area by a mile. I always get it blown in and the rep comes to collect the money 2 to 3 weeks after. He'll knock between €10 and €15 per ton off the quoted price. He's a great man for cattle, loves looking in the sheds and talking the mart talk. Everything, cattle and sheep, get Pattons Golden Thrive, which is a ration, It comes in at about €260 per ton. I have a neighbour with a prdigree herd. He finishes all of his bulls on it. It doesn't puff them out like Showbiz Turbo, but he recons that he gets great performance from it. He sells all of his bulls from the house and recons that buyers don't want to buy a bull that looks like it has been pushed on too much.

    No,

It was Duignan's Mills, which was later bought by McDonaghs and then bought by Connacht Gold and subsequently closed down by them so that their co-op stores wouldn't have to compete on price with it.
