I'm planning on moving to Australia next August to find work. I'm thinking of getting a working visa and staying the year. I'm on €144 from the social welfare. Im living at home but give my parents rent of €40. Im looking for work but cant get an interview so Im putting any extra money left over from rent to fund my move to Oz to find work. But is that illegal to save dole money. For a working visa I need €3,000 in bank for the visa requirements.

Its your money, you can do whatever you want with it.

If you're on means tested UA there might be some rule about declaring savings.

absolutely not. this money is your entitlement as you are unemployed so you can save whatever of the money that is left over.

you are already claiming social welfare and if you didn't have anything to declare when you were means tested then you are perfectly fine as you are only starting to save now, so I wouldn't worry about that at all. saving on that low amount of income is not going to be easy anyway but good luck with it.

Best of luck mate. Why would you think it is illegal? It's your money. Accomodation is expensive there so you will need a fair bit of wedge.

if you had 10,000 or 20,000 euro and you didn't declare it at the time of being means tested then it would be illegal. but you are perfectly fine.

anyway i'm sure the social welfare would be happy to see you saving as you will be off social welfare when you go to work in australia so they would be happy with that.

for means testing anything €20,000 or less is exempted. I presume OP did not have this amount saved at time of means testing as in view of the fact that he is saving to head to Oz I would think not. OP can save his jobseekers to fund his moving to oz. As other posters have said it is his money to do as he wants with... btw I must commend him or perhaps his parents for giving money at home to cover his costs.

€20,000 I see, I thought 10,000 would have been the case but cheers for clarifying this.
