Really? I just bought one last weekend thinking 569 was a great price. Missed the 15% off. Dang!

Argh, bought this tv in Mahon Point 3 weeks at the higher price. Good tv, would definitely recommend it. Have it connected to house network and can stream content from laptop. Very handy!

Hey, how long is reduced for and would it be the same price in Currys, Galway?!?!?!:):):):):D:D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 661 ✭✭✭ncur

It was over the €600 mark at the start of the month, so price already significantly down. Various Currys run the 3 day 15% off promotion at different times so a further reduction would depend on whether they do the 15% off in Galway any time soon.

Been searching for a spec online lads. Those of you who have it, is there an ethernet port and how can one connect a laptop to it to stream stuff from the internet and display it?.

Does the Allshare allow me to watch stuff I am streaming (not saved on my PC) to the laptop on the telly?.

    Confused........

seems like it'll allow you to do allsorts. :)

    http://www.samsung.com/global/allshare/pcsw/

and yes, one RJ45 ethernet port for wired internet access & streaming etc. according to amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE40D5000-LED-backlit-widescreen-platinum/dp/tech-data/B004QF0QEA/ref=de_a_smtd

who incidentally are still selling it for £531.00 so it's looking like a great deal in currys.

    It's €570 on the site:confused:

No mention of Response time anywhere....(very important if you're gonna play games on it) it say's it's backlit but for the price I assume it's local dimming and not actually true backlit, it has Mpeg4 tuner for Saorview but no mention/sign of Mheg5 for Digital Teletext.

    "Mega Contrast"............Sounds amazing!

I can't understand why it's so hard to just get a detailed spec sheet:confused:

Good price if you can get it at OPs price. But it'll probably break just outside Warranty like my Samsung did (My one and only).

its funny, but now you mention it, there's reams of info on it on the amazon site, but not a whiff of a mention of the response time which you'd consider to be one of the essential basic pieces of info for any LCD telly or monitor.

Fantastic price on this BUT and I know this from experience

These TVs suffer from image clouding on dark scences (google samsung clouding issue) they also suffer from image juddering on fast paced action (sports espessically)

I am currently awaiting my refund / exchange from pix mania fir this tv so just be weary with the proposed bargain.

With backlit LED screens. Not so much with edge lit models.
My Philips 9705 drives me spare with it.

Until the technology progresses, I'd never buy another backlit LED set.

When things are good for backlit LED screens (bright, colourdy pictures), the quality is amazing.
Anything other than ideal pictures though, and you'll do your nut*.

    * - I'm talking about personal experience with my 9705. The Sammy might be excellent.

Not necessarily, the 40D5000 is also a 100Hz tv remember, so it should be fine for sports at least.

A 100Hz LED TV from a very reputable brand for 480€ is certainly a bargain in my eyes, by the way

    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/samsung-ue40d5520-ue32d5520-201107121282.htm

May be a different model number in this review, but afaik, should be the very same panel, so in terms of picture quality, it should be identical

For gaming it is ok. For watching sports it is terrible the screen can't refresh fast enough. So you see a double image at times.

My tv had a 200hz refresh rate so it shouldn't have been an issue. But it is the LED light factor that causes the issue. I spoke to a samsung engineer and he told me it is an issue with all LED except for panasonic who have developed a 400hz tv that can refresh the screen fast enough to reduce the judder.

Again that is just my experience. But, do a bit of research of clouding, juddering and blur motion technology before buying this.

If I knew what I know how I would not have bought the tv.

Try plasma, if you really want proper picture quality that also handles fast motion correctly and looks like a natural picture. Until OLED tvs come out plasma is your best bet.

I never really looked closely at Plasmas, are they good for gaming? Do they still screen burn? What's the Life span? Still 60,000 hours?

Think i will stick with LCD for the time being

Lifespan same as LCD, appx 100,000hrs. Screen burn had all but been eliminated, but if your main use is gaming then perhaps stick with LCD for now...

@ anyone that got this recently:

Were there mounting screws supplied with the tv? Not the ones to attach the base stand, but the wide short type for the wall mount. Got mine a while back, but can't seem to find them.

these usually come with the wall bracket; screws of various sizes for diff TV sizes ( M4/M6/M8 ) IIRC.
