Since they changed the software, I can't seem to toggle the volume at all or mute it.
I click on the icon in the bottom right of the screen and nothing happens, however if I hover on it, it will say 'headphones 20%' or some other percentage.
How do I adjust the volume?

Sorry if this sounds insulting, but are you clicking on the right icon? Wouldn't say 'headphones' anyways.

Try it yourself. The icon is beside the date and the McAfee icon.

when you have noting in the computer speaker jack, it will say the sound is disabled, when you plug in headphones it will change the sound to 20% and put "headphone" under it as it detected that something was plugged into the "headphone" jack.

The problem is, windows 7 all admin features(including changing sound volumes) have been disabled so that the used does not go about messing with it. This gets frustrating when even web browser sound control is void meaning whatever sound is coming from the machine is what you need to deal with, which 99% of the time is extremely load.

Sorry if this sounds insulting, but if you have no what your talking about, dont say it doesn't do something/wouldn't say something

What would you possibly want the sound for anyway? Are you one of those absolute gimps who sits in the computer suites watching Friends, giggling away like a little spa?

^^ This. I have a laptop but I use the computers in the library for printing and nothing pisses me off more than watching some c*nt looking at retarded videos of cats on youtube when I'm waiting to use the computers.

listening to music while working? only thing i would use it for anyways, have most of my playlist's on groveshark these days handy when you want to go to any machine and plug in and just work away.... except in the college machines of course

Sometimes you do need to listen to things on the computers though.

There were a series of lectures on the economic crisis that our lecturer recommended we listen to for a topic in our global economy module.

There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to listen to things like that on the college computers. Other courses such as the MA in Film Studies would require people to watch films outside of class hours. They have to be able to do this on college computers.

Like everything else, some people will abuse it but that's not really a valid argument for getting rid of it completely.

Grow a pair and ask them to move off. Be firm and most usually melt away with embarrassment.
