The same people who were saying "we need to move on", "we need to mature as a nation", etc. in relation to Queen Elizabeth's visit to Ireland are now the ones who are living in the past when it comes to Martin McGuinness. There were atrocities on both sides, that is the nature of violent conflict. The violent struggle has reformed into a peaceful political struggle. People have moved on from the violence of the past.

I'm over in the UK at the moment, and today on BBC radio there were former members of the RUC being interviewed, one of whom had been shot multiple times by the IRA, who both support Martin McGuinness in his bid to become the President of Ireland!

QE2 wanted to come for a 4 day visit.
MMG wants a 7 year term as president.

Not sure comparing one to the other really works as a debating point.

By the same token, MMG is a hypocrite for not moving on and meeting herself on her visit.

Now let the comparisons with Mandela recommence...
