OPF finishing next year, how will this affect my grant??

Just wondering if anyone can help me here...

I have the full grant + special rate top up this year which is such a help. I am entitled to this because my mum receives One Parent Family income. I'm after realising, however, that she won't be entitled to this once my little sister turns 17 in August, as the rules for this were changed this year.

Can anyone advise me what the procedure is for me when I go to reapply for my grant next year? This is my first year of a 2 year course and I'm wondering since my sister will turn 17 in August and my mother will cease receiving the OPF will this immediately void my entitlement of the special rate top up? Or shall I still be able to receive the top up?

Pretty worried about this so any help would be great :)

    Hi

Stop worrying, your grant is based on your mom's income not on the fact she is on OPFA. I assume she will be receiving some SW payment whether it is OPFA or JA. It is based on a low SW income not the payment,

Yes but one of the requirements for special rate top up is that she be receiving a sw payment for a certain duration before hand, she will qualify as her OPF won't be finished until around august ish but then she won't be receiving that anymore for the year while I'm in college.

Don't worry! The grant you receive in 2011 is based on 2010 income, government rules. So when you apply for your renewal next year it will be based on 2011 income.

You will probably only be affected if and when you progress to level 7 as you will have to reapply for a grant. Cross that bridge when you come to it, concentrate on passing the first two years for now, Best of Luck!
