hi all, my sister and her husband need to go to salzburg at the end of October, since there are no direct flights from Ireland I was wondering if any of you have travelled there and what is the easiest option. Thank you

    Fly Dub to Munich.

There is at least on train every hour leaving Munich Hbf for Salzburg.
    90 mins to Salzburg.

I second the fly to Munich and train option. Its so easy. You can even buy your train tickets online before you go from www.bahn.de print off your ticket and off you go. All very simple.

And if they do decide to take the train from Munich and want to save some money, they can travel with the "Bayern Ticket" -- up to 5 adults can travel on one ticket that costs €29 one way. But if you use this ticket, you can only travel on RE (regional, i.e. slower) trains and the journey takes 2 hours. To come back to Munich, they would have to buy a second Bayern Ticket -- but this is often still cheaper than the cheapest DB fare.

You can buy the Bayern Ticket online before you go as well :)

There is also a bus transfer service at Munich airport to Salzburg.
    The company is SMS.

The booking desk is in the central area Z (Zentral).
After leaving arrivals, watch out for signs Z and MAC.
One goes down one level to this central area Z.
After the airport information desk and before the car rental firms there is a counter with S M S signed on it.
Cost per person is about 50 €.

They cater for pre booked groups. They usually have seats free every day. Cost is about 50€ per person to Salzburg.
If one in a month they have no seats free the Deutsche Bahn (Rail) counter and automats are nearby.

Salzburg is a great town. I have been there on four occasions.
The Sound of Music tour is great.
The reports about the Mozart tours are all positive.
