I'm Ex-pat myself, and according to the Embassy here in Norway, you must go to Ireland to vote.

Thus, every election, I have returned home to my parent's house (where I had still received voting cards), and then vote at the local polling station. For me, I have found it to be a good excuse to return home to see friends and family.

However, after the last census, there is a very good chance that I may not receive a voting card (no longer resident in Ireland).

I would like to see some form or Embassy / Consulate voting for Irish citizens living abroad. Alas, at the moment that is not an option.

You cannot vote if you are not living in Ireland.

If you are an Irish citizen living abroad you cannot be entered on the Register of electors. This means that you cannot vote in an election or referendum here in Ireland. (The only exception to this is in the case of Irish officials on duty abroad (and their spouses) who may register on the postal voters list)
