Great news but you would think we need more games like the Pakistan series, 4/5 ODI's in one year just isn't enough games against top level opposition...

    yep great news.

Pity its a saturday during the cricket season though. I would imagine you will find quite a few club games still scheduled that day.

CRICKET IRELAND are delighted to announce a Christmas bonus for Irish fans - the first chance to secure tickets for next summers RSA Challenge one-day international against Australia on Saturday June 23 in Belfast.

While tickets for the Aussies much anticipated return to Belfast do not go on sale until next month, Christmas shoppers can buy seat vouchers that will make perfect stocking fillers for cricket fans.

The beauty of the Cricket Ireland scheme is that recipients of the vouchers are guaranteed a seat at the 50-over match in the grounds of Stormont Castle - no matter how fast tickets sell out in January.

Ireland coach Phil Simmons said: We are all looking forward to playing Australia again after not making the most of a couple of very good chances to beat them in Dublin last year.

The match will be the highlight of our summer and with the support of another big crowd we will want to go one better this time.

Commenting on the announcement RSA's Chief Executive Philip Smith said: "As proud sponsors of the Irish Cricket Teams, RSA Insurance is delighted to put our name to this world class event. It sees the continuation of the high profile RSA Challenge Series into 2012 which grows from strength to strength. The last RSA Challenge featuring Australia in 2010 was the best event Irish Cricket has ever seen, and we know that next seasons RSA Challenge will surpass even that great day. We look forward to the match with huge excitement and anticipation."

When Ireland last played Australia in an RSA Challenge match at Clontarf in 2010, the then world champions were restricted to only 231-9 and given a real scare when Ireland raced to 80-0 in reply.

It took a match-of-the-match winning spell of 5-14 from one-day expert James Hopes to save the visitors blushes and win the game by 39 runs.

The Australians made many friends during the week they spent in Dublin and will again in Belfast as they prepare for a five-match ODI series against England.

Tickets prices for the game are £40 for adults, £32 for OAPs and only £12 for accompanied Under-16s. A Family ticket (two adults and two Under-16s costs £100).

Tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster at the end of January, however Christmas ticket vouchers are ready for purchase from the Cricket Ireland office. Orders can be emailed to Dennis Cousins, dennis.cousins@irishcricket.org or over the phone on +353 1 8947914 ext 3, with payment made by either cheque or bank transfer.
