Mozilla are going to put me in an early grave if they keep this rapid release of new versions up - without checking add-on compatibility BEFORE the f*&^ing update goes through.

Progress is not defined as breaking something that works.

Anyone else as  at this as me?

    Mozilla, Nozilla, NotAnyEffingMorezilla... :D

Yep - it seems every other week there's a new major version out... I don't even know if I'm on Firefox 8 or 9 at this rate.
Really missing some of my plugins.
I wish they'd stop this tomfoolery.

And I'm only just after upgrading to 6

Download the Addon Comaptibility Reporter, makes most incompatible plugins work fine :)

That's all well and good, but its AFTER the update that the add-on compatibility checker comes into play - essentially shutting the door after the horse has bolted... And its still not guaranteed to get all your broken add-ons to work. :( Indeed, I've seen this process of forcing add-ons to run cause issues in and of itself. End result FF crashing. Which defeats the purpose entirely.

All I'm asking for from Mozilla is that they change their update process to check for problem add-ons before proceeding with the update. Let the user know before the update which add-ons will not work, and give the user the choice as to whether they want to proceed with the update or not. :)

None of this add-on compatibility checker hassle (itself an add-on). Just let me know which ones aren't going to work and then let me decide if I want to take the chance of upgrading without those add-ons that will no longer work... Simple really.

I'm sick and tired of updates breaking things that were working fine in the first place (a gripe not just limited to Mozilla...). Maybe open source software isn't suited to a rapid release software life-cycle, especially when so much functionality is tied to third party add-ons.

The majority of addons will work perfectly, especially as these new versions are "minor" in changes so to speak. If Firefox stuck to their old type versioning, we'd be at something like 4.7 now, and Mozilla decided that would make Firefox appear inferior to Chrome so their going this route. It pisses me off too, but blame the Google folk for this!!

I hate Firefox these days. They take a perfectly good thing and add a bunch of horse**** to it. I much prefer the system of a lean browser with add-on API. They've totally changed the way I have to interact with my browser history, for example. And the whole unit just feels sluggish now. Not sure what I mean? Open up multiple articles on Gizmodo.com and let me know how many you can open before you start seeing those violent page-load freezes.

from what i read they are releasing so many updates to keep the brand out there , as apple do. even though the releases dont support many plugins etc. its a marketing thing.
