hope this in in the right place,
i have a 2l manual 02 trajet, diesel it wont go into 4th and 3rd is now getting a bit dodgy too, i believe there was a callback a cple yrs ago with a gearbox problem, ive looked through the paperwork and dont see anywhere that it was called back. i bought the car 2 yrs ago.if this is the case is it too late to get onto hyundai about this, or am i left with getting a new/used gearbox . if so any idea's as to where and what i should expect to pay for a second hand one, i presume a new one would cost more than the car itself !
any help is greatly appreciated thanks

First is to check it with any Hyundai dealer is there any recalls / campaigns due to this car. Give them the reg of the car and they have to check it for free. Mention that you have a gearbox problem and ask them to double check for any recalls on gearbox - its their job to do it for you!
Next is to check if its not a gearbox linkage / cables / engine mountings that are causing problems engaging gears - its might be not a gearbox problem at all!
If you sure its gearbox itself is at fault than you might consider gearbox repair / overhaul option, especially if you have an info about gearboxes be troublesome on this model. Second hand box might have the same fault and its not a cheapest job to swap it (and then again).

The problem is your synchromesh is failing. Their notorious for it. You can get tem reconditioned. If you buy a second hand box you could be buying the same problem.

there was a problem with 1st and 2nd gear synchros that the trajets were notorious for, not 3rd and 4th.

they also had slight (but certainly not as prolific) troubles with gear selector cables, i'd look into these first perhaps.

I had two of them with synchs gone, fourth gear and reverse. Never had a problem with cables. Is worth checking first though. It would be much cheaper.
