    hi guys .. newbie to this forum here.. my problem is as above... basically last week my dog knocked my laptop off my couch causing my screen to smash..so this week i saved up my cents & bought a 2nd hand dell monitor & hooked it up to the laptop... well the initial screen came up fine & the boot menu .. however when i press "start windows normally" my monitor automatically goes into "power save mode" and the monitor goes into standby! If i start in "safe mode" then the screen comes up fine ! Does anyone have any idea how to fix this so that my monitor stays on in normal mode??? i must add that im also using a USB keyboard as my laptop keyboard does not work due to water damage.. & theres no fn key for me to use if that has anything to do with it???

    LOL, USB keyboard-->Laptop-->Monitor.

    I'm using a Dell Monitor with a new Computer and am having trouble also, the first screen I see is the User Account page so I can't access Bios screen/Safe Mode, they just don't show up.

    If I press F8 when turning on the Computer all I see is black, (the Safe Mode Screen is probably there) Windows doesn't load so I can only assume there's some driver pack in Dell Computers that control the Display.
