Has anyone used this new service in the train stations? I was hesitant @ first but I signed up a few weeks ago. In all fairness it's a very good service and good idea. It saves a lot of hassle of having to look for a load of coins every day it week. The company that operate it are actually really usefull too. I had a query over my account for which I sent a mail in from their website. Almost instantly I received a reply outlining a clear response with no hassle or B.S!

I would definitely recommend this to all rail users who drive to the station.

Could you outline some more details please - does it work in Connolly and Heuston? How do you register? Website?

I registered on their website- parkbyext.ie. I'm not sure if it operates in these two stations - I only use it for malahide station. If you go onto their website I'm sure they would have a list of all the stations on it.

Basically you register your details with them including the mobile number and car. Then all you need to do to park is text in a code and the duration of the stay. Pretty simple- even I can follow it!

Can you confirm whether you have any association with this company, business or otherwise?

It seems to work at a lot of Dart and some country mainline stations - but NOT Connolly or Heuston so of no interest to me.

The website is a bit amateurish, the visuals are good but finding the information is a bit of a struggle. Instead of a straight list of car parks by county there is a map which you have to zoom into to find the car parks. Could do better.

And the poster above didn't even spell the URL correctly which is surprising considering it was his first post so you'd suspect it was an attempt at free advertising. I'm not going to bother correcting him, I wouldn't bother with the website TBH.

That seem a lot more expensive than popping over to the ticket machine, Network charges apply for the texts sent as well as being charged 20cent for any texts recieved and the company may also charge extra for sending texts as well as charging a convenience charge! Also this is available now in Carlow station but the website has not been uodated yet.

What happens if your payment somehow does not register for your car and you get clamped?? at least with the ticket stuck in your windscreen you are prooving payment for parking.

Although its a good idea i think it would be better off being used by on street parking. It will stop you having to keep running out to top up the meter or if you cant make it back before the ticket runs out for whatever reason.
Parking at the stations you usually pay so much per day at the meter and you know you have paid and have the ticket to prove. I take it that you can pay per day by text as well but you could end up clamped if the clampers say that your payment hasnt shown up at their end. Is it worth the potential hassle?

There are park by text options for many on-street providers, but generally when the meter runs out of its max time, the bye laws are that you *have* to move the vehicle on and the texting systems actually enforce this - you can't renew.

I think the only particular advantages of using such systems in stations are (a) if you can't return to renew your ticket, e.g. you plan to be away for two days, but are actually away for three and (b) if you are in a hurry / don't have change.

Wonder could anyone help me - I started using this parkbytext, convenient as I tend to always be arriving at the last minute at the train station, and the machine nearest is often out of order (leaving me run like a lunatic to the next one).

Anyway - all was well, I paid for a week's parking, and yes (I checked) it is ok and registered that I'm parked there and my parking is valid till Oct 17th.

Today (30 mins ago) I arrive back at my car to find a little note under my wiper from Euro Car parks, a 'clamping warning notice'! I am absolutely livid. I rang the phone num on the notice to eat the heads of them - the ph num is invalid (eircom auto message) and the number off the notice in the carpark got me through to some poor guy that only knew that the office was not there after 5pm. There's no number to ring parkbytext.

So does anybody at all know what the story is? I don't want to get clamped or get into a situation where they clamp me for me to have to prove I'm parked legally. Who is running this whole lark??

The parking attendant may have put the notice on your car as a reminder that you were covered by parkbytext so that he did not clamp you later in the day?

No foggy_lad - it seems not. I rang euro car parks yesterday morning to find out what the story was, and apparently (get a load of this) euro car parks are nothing to do with parkbytext. They have no access to knowin that I used parkbytext... so it seems. Both parking companies are employed by CIE to look after the car parks (so euro says).

The woman I spoke to from euro said she would inform the attendant (that put that notice on my car) of my reg num, and that I was covered by parkbytext, and I also printed off the sheet from my parkbytext account and put that on my dashboard - I just want to ensure that I don't get clamped this week, but this is ridiculous.

I need to ring CIE and find out what kind of a farce this is - because I reckon this whole facility is so that you don't have to worry about getting tickets or leaving notes on your car to say you've used parkbytext.

I've never seen anyone get clamped at the station I'm at - that doesn't mean you can't be though, the notices are all there. I'm not risking being the one that has to pay out €120 for the craic before being reimbursed because it was an 'error'.

Anyway - for the moment my next step is to find out what CIE have to say about this, and are Euro telling the truth about having no access to knowing who's parket by parkbytext. If there is anyone who knows more about this melarky - do please tell me more!
