Bad teeth.

Hi as above i have bad teeth so bad i have not gone to the Dentist in years.I am embarrassed at how bad they are now and for the last 2-3 years i have not gone to the Dentist.

My front 2 teeth are caps have been in about 18 years and have broke and stained. But the real problem are my back teeth or lack of.I am ashamed to say i have about 6 teeth that are onlt stubs or close to that as they are so rotten i have another few teeth that need fillings and one with a very big hole in it this is starting to hurt me.

I need to start with the worst teeth and try to get them looking some way better.I think the back are the worst.I am very concious of how bad my breath smells so i chew gum or mints constantly. This is really affecting my confidence and i need to get this sorted but dont know where to start.

I am so ashamed of how bad they are i cant face a Dentist and this is stopping me from going. Also the cost is scary as i dont earn a lot but cant let that stop me.Can anyone recommend a good reasonable priced Dentist in the North side of Dublin or not too far that would take on a job as bad as this.

Also what are my options with regards to dentures or similar treatment as i need a lot of work done on my teeth and dont think many can be saved. Also if any do payment plans that would be great as i can pay but just not a big lump sum. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi

I dont think many dentists do payment plans but by the sound of it the work you need will be done over a few sessions, could take 2 - 3 months or maybe more.most dentists will allow you to pay a few quid each session rather then all up front,my dentist currently is doing this

for instance if you need 5 visits over 3 months and your bill is 2000 euro, you may be able to pay the dentist 400 euro at each visit or even 200 euro each visit then the last lump sum at the end.. youd really have to talk to your dentist about this as they will all have different opinions on how much you can pay each time.

regarding the breath.you should stop your dependance on gums and mints, they really dont help,i used to use alot of them also. you should get the hygienist to scrape all the teeth below your gumline, give the teeth a polish and clean off any plaque and dirt thats on there, that will help a little, then have rotten teeth taken out.. stop smoking, stop drinking, stop eating red meats curries and garlicy foods. drink plenty of water, drink about a glass of water every hour.brush 4 times a day,use floss, get an electric toothbrush, use a manual toothbrush for brushing your tongue, the inside of your cheeks and the palat of your mouth, use alcohol free mouthwash.your not gonna get rid of bad breath over night,it will take a couple of years, unfortunately most dentists will ignore bad breath and they wont even acknowledge you have it,i think this is coz there really is not anything they can do about it other then telling you to brush your teeth 3 - 4 times a day and floss.

You should apply for a medical card if you dont have one.at least that will cover you for an extraction or 2,a filling or 2 and a denture, you may need a denture for them front teeth,i was in a similar situation,i got the teeth taken out,you can get the standard plastic type denture that is covered by the medical card or you can fork out abour 900 of your own money and get a chrome denture, these fit betetr in the mouth and have a gap in them so they dont cover all of your palat,im gtetin one of these as i had a platic one before and i found it very uncomfortable and couldnt eat with it in.

The main thing is to stop feeling ashamed, the dentists see bad teeth every day,and they wont be hard on you or make judgements, its all confidential, you wont be bumping into the dentist in the street or anything.

youve allready made the first step by acknowledging you need to get halot of work done, its all going to be uphill form here, soon as the first treatment starts youll have more confidence and youll feel better

i go to a dentist on soutside so i have no recomendations for you im afraid :(

there is a few dentists using the boards, mayb they are on northside and they will pm you their details, they all seem like nice guys that will look after you and do top notch work

Hi thanks for you reply, I just dont know where to start with my teeth as they are so bad. How hard is it to get rid of the teeth that are so bad that they are level with my gums? What is the rough cost of getting a tooth that is that bad out? And would I be able to get a few done at the same time?

i am going to try book a Dentist for next week as another one of my teeth is broke and its starting to hurt. The last thing i need now with work is to miss a few days with a bad tooth ache as its busy.

Im from the Swords are if anyone knows a good Dentist that will take on this work please pm me.

Taking teeth out that are level with your gum is gonna require the dentist to cut your gum open so he can get at it, most likely he will have to cut the tooth in half and pull it out in a couple of pieces.this of course will cost more then the regular extraction, regular ones cost roughly 90 euro give or take.. You could be lookin at anything up to double that price,it all depends how easily or how hard it is for the dentist to get the tooth out,how long it takes him and so on..
Then theres the healing period, youll have stictches in your gums for a week or 2,you may have to go back to the dentist to have the stitches removed

The sooner you get this work done the better, your mental health and the health of your mouth/body is more important then a few busy days in work, you can always get another job, your not gonna be able to get a new mouth

    Pm sent

Splitting the gums may not be required it depends on the root form.
Best thing to do is get a treatment plan and start working through it
