Got a huawei router b260a. Living in a rural area.
Im completely new to broadband in the house, never needed it before now as work had an extremely fast set up.

Basically ive signed up for http://three.ie/products_services/broadband/broadband-router.html

Download Up to 7.2Mbps Upload Spee Up to 5.6Mbps. After ringing customer service they state the network can only support up 3.2 download... the router can handle those specs. Not exactly honest advertising.

I then went looking to see what satellite broadband can offer and its more or less the same. 3.2 -3.6 download.

Can anyone advise me what the best set up is for a rural area with poor signal?

Such a nest of hornets....look through the threads on this forum, I really hope you weren't ACTUALLY expecting what was advertised ;)
I'm in rurality and am happy with three, BUT my expectations were very low coming in.....and my dongle resides on an upstairs outside window cill connected to a wireless router......and I used to have O2 whch was worse, and I hve a vodafone dongle from work which is crap around these parts.

Variation in speed is anything from zero to 3.something-ish, mean average hovers 0.8-1.5. But as I say variation is massive. Re-starting the router is common. As I type, I just realise connection gone completely so have to re-start again! Yet, another night I could get 2.5. Bad night, has been great for weeks up to this......

Problem sort of sorted for the moment, still can't get onto certain sites. D/load speed is 4.6!

    Hi,

I had exactly the same problem but with a different provider. I decided to get satellite broadband 8mb for €39.95 per month and It's really fast. Highly recommend it!
