Did 'Saved By the Bell' reduce science education takeup for a generation?

Before Saved By the Bell started in 1989 I didn't know there was a distinction between 'jocks' and 'nerds'.

I never thought that people who were good at school or studied hard were 'socially inept' and awkward and I didn't know that if I acted smart that girls would never talk to me and I'd be picked on at school and grow up to be a 35 year old virgin who lives with my mother.

Thank god Zack and the gang appeared just in time to teach everyone in my class to use words like nerd and geek and to make it socially acceptable to bully those who weren't naturally gifted at sports. (I did try to play hurling and football but my thick glasses and pocket protector (whatever that is) kept getting in the way
