Right to CCTV of yourself

I was in a slight accident covered by a supermarket's CCTV, and have asked the security person in the supermarket for a copy of the video. He says only the Gardaí can ask for this.

Is he correct? I know in Britain you have a right through the Data Protection Act to have a copy of any film that shows you. What is the law on this in Ireland?

You are entitled to the video. however, it won't be handed out willy nilly.

Write to the supermarket or have your solicitor do so ASAP, in case it is deleted.

Lodge your request asap. Preferably by some means where there is a record of your request.

Bear in mind that you need to be quick. They have no obligation to keep recordings and even the DPC suggests that recordings should be held no more than 28 days.

BTW you may have to pay a small fee to the supermarket - €6.35 if I recall.
