My boyfriend was considering going to view one of these. Are they worth a look or a waste of time? :)

I had one a few years back and loved it (very comfy and a miser on diesel). It was the 'XS' model and had loads of extras. As with any car make sure it has a full service history.

Voted as the second worst car in a Top Gear survey for 2005 - http://www.topgear.com/content/features/stories/2005/11/stories/01/5.html

Painfully slow. Really, really, horribly slow. Slow, slow, slow.

This is not a quick car.

The opinions of the others here are right insofar as performance is concerned. These things are indeed slow. On the other hand, they are very cheap to run.

    Swings and roundabouts really...:)

As above...The 307 1.4hdi won't give you whiplash on take off but it will bring a smile to your face as you pass by service stations...:)

If i had one i would get it remapped to make it more responsive...;)

Maybe that's a good thing! He won't be speeding then! A diesel would be better because he has to travel a bit for work... and then the bigger diesels end up costing way too much on insurance

Didn't this engine have problems with injector seals? The same engine was in the Fiesta and it had injector seal issues at the time.

Yes...the copper washers (seals) pass compression by the injectors and create a black carbon substance around that offending injector(s)
This is also quite common on mercedes cdi's.

As it was said above, car is slow indeed. Engine is economical but its not a last word in diesel engineering so economy is its only strong point, not power or torque. Its also prone to electrical problems that might be difficult to fix, as electrics are pretty complicated with numerous ECUs, multiplexed networks and all that - so make sure everything electrical works as it should, otherwise repairs might be expensive. Peugeots often suffers from lack of servicing, probably because they claimed to have long service intervals (up to 30 000 km in "normal" conditions) so it looks like owners just forgot to service them at all. As a Peugeot mechanic myself I've seen a lot of them in poor shape because of that, make sure yours was serviced regularly.
On positive side car is comfortable and has a good handling, apart from low power its more entertaining to drive than, say for example Almera, but far not as good as Peugeot 306 was. For its size and comfort its cheap enough.
