    Hey,
I don't suppose RTE Television is possible to pickup on satellite in Croatia or Lanzarote?

    Thanks!

Fairly sure you can pick up Sky channels in Lanzarote with the right dish (watched RTÉ in a pub there). You'll need an Irish Sky card and subscription to de-scramble though.

    A huge dish is needed.

We have a dish alright, not sure the size though. What frequency would we need to be looking at? Also, hotbird or Astra?

The Irish channels are on Astra 2D. In Lanzarote, I would think you would need something like a 3 metre dish & you'd know if you had one of those . . .

The TV channels are not free to air on satellite though you might be able to pick up the radio stations. Reception of the TV channels requires a valid BSkyB subscription in the Republic of Ireland and such a subscription cannot legitimately be obtained in the countries concerned.

Any discussion of how to illegitimately obtain such a subscription will lead to this thread being closed.

RTÉ radio is FTA so surely it is possible to discuss the reception of that. RTÉ radio incidentally is on the same transponder as RTÉ television.

Could be closer to 4.5 metre, maybe 2m for Croatia.

2.4m in Southern Spain and that's half the distance away as Canary Islands.

Follow that logic through and all the discussions on here about how to watch UK TV on Sky boxes via Other Channels and Freesat from Sky cards should be stopped as well.

It is entirely legitimate to obtain a Sky subscription for an Irish address. You (generally) need a landline and an Irish bank account or an Irish credit card. A second hand box is necessary as these boxes are not obliged to be permanently connected to a phone line. Buy the box on ebay or Buy and Sell.

Connect the box to a working Sky/Freesat dish and call Sky from the Irish landline phone. Set up the subscription package you want with Sky and a viewing card will be sent to your Irish address. Ensure you get a "second hand" contract so the box is not required to be connected to a phone line.

This card must be paired to the box so you will now need to call Sky to get them to authorise the card. Once the card is authorised and paired to your box you can then view the Irish channels.

The Sky T&Cs state the box can be used in Britain and Ireland only. If the box is taken outside Ireland the box may be set to the UK channels if the box is connected to a UK phone line. Keep paying the subscription if you want the Irish channels.

There are literally hundreds of other Internet forums if not thousands where you can discuss the above topics without three moderators bickering over rules and red tape.

As per the european court of justice, there should be no issue discussing this topic. Any "national legislation which prohibits the import, sale or use of foreign decoder cards is contrary to the freedom to provide services and cannot be justified either in light of the objective of protecting intellectual property rights or by the objective of encouraging the public to attend football stadiums."

This now legalises what has been going on behind the scenes for some years now. Irish Sky subs are valuable as they provide access to the Irish channels.

RTE won't like it one bit but people can now legally watch Irish TV inside the Astra 2D footprint provided they have obtained an Irish Sky sub in the legal way.
