Buying fire and shower in the North - VAT exempt?

Thinking of buying our gas fire and shower in the North. Both companies have said if I provide them with a VAT number and address that I could possibly be exempt from VAT when buying. Can I use our builders number and address for this? Are there any implications for his company if I use his number? Just want to check this…

You are by the sounds of it trying to avoid paying vat. However you yourself are not registered to do this. This implies what you are doing is illegal and as a result the thread cannot be left open.
