Hi, I'm new, just registered, basically because I can't find what I'm looking for on google.
I need to get away for a few days from kids, work, ex, in-laws etc.
Have had the year from hell...stress levels at their peak and I'm just exhausted. I'm sure none of you want to hear the gory details, so I'm just asking if anyone knows of a nice hotel in Ireland where I can go on my own for a few days just to chill out and get some head space.
It would prob have to be in Ireland for financial reasons. But maybe uk or somewhere else if cheap enough.
I don't want to go anywhere too far because 1 yr old has health problems and he's ok, but would be a bit to nervous being too far away.

Please don't judge...I'm not running away from my kids, I'm not a bad mother, I've just had a really hard time and need to get away.
Ex has offered to mind them while I'm away in my house and my family will help him out.

I would love to go somewhere that I wouldn't be too conspicous as someone there on my own, and somewhere that I wouldn't have to interact with people too much...where I could just, sleep, relax, take some nice walks, have a few spa treatments...does such a place exist I wonder?

Thank you, I've never been to westport, I'm having a look now to see if I can find something nice.

Just wondering, about staying in a hotel alone...anyone ever done it?

If you could afford Dromoland Castle in Clare it would be perfect.
The Ardilaun in Galway would be a cheaper option.

I've done it with work many times. Staying in the hotel is the easy bit, I always find dining for one to be the chore. In Ireland and the UK, I generally find a nice pub for dinner instead of a restaurant as no one will bat an eyelid to a single diner there.

I think a good hotel with spa facilities is what you're looking for. Lots of people go to these on their own.

You should keep an eye on some of the "deals" sites, a lot of them are offering specials for hotels generally with some including spas. A lot of them unfortunately are for couples but it could be worth ringing up to find out if they'll do the same deal or cheaper for a single person.

    See here for one example

This site collates a lot of the offers

Monart, Macreddin Village are recommended spa break destinations but have a look on Tripadisor for more.

Here's another deal that's for one person and it's a full day with lunch. You could book to stay in the same hotel or somewhere else in Limerick.

The Sheraton Fota Island. Think they are doing deals at the moment. Its really lovely with a great spa, pool and facilities and marvellous food. IMO more people should do this to preserve their sanity, especially Mums.:D

How about the Brehon in Killarney. Nice hotel, lovely spa, near Muckross for walks.

Hi, I think the BrookLodge in Macreddin Village would be right up your street. It certainly ticks all of your boxes OP and a whole lot more.

Ask for Orlaith in Reservations and she'll do you the best deal.

Not the cheapest of places but if your budget can stretch to it, Monart, just outside Enniscorthy would tick most if not all your box's....you won't even have to get dressed if you don't want to, breakfast, lunch & dinner(in the bar, you will have to get dressed if you want dinner in the main dining room) in your bathrobe is perfectably acceptable

Adult only destination, great staff, great food, facilities, I couldn't fault it personally, if you really want to get away from it all, this is the place.

    OP, we must be telepathic...:D
I'm the same, craving for even just 2 nights and 2 days on my own, in a cosy spot, and no socialising, just me. I'm not daunted by the staying in hotel on my own bit at all, but I don't think I'd sit in a hotel dining room on my own like has been said, so I'm plotting to find a hotel with some restaurants/pubs around other than the hotel one.

Anyway, for advice from my neck of the woods, The Gold Coast or Clonea Strands hotels near Dungarvan Co Waterford are both lovely. The Clonea Strand is right on the beach, great for a windy walk on your own. It has a pool and is not too... uppity (as in, making you feel uncomfortable uppity). Same sort of atmosphere about the Gold Coast, and I think their pool is better with Jaccuzzi, and they possibly have some treatments going there, not sure. The Gold Coast is also exactly "by the water" (as in, across the road, no walk to get there), but not a beach, just a long rocky edge.

Both are very close to Dungarvan, where there are nice places to eat (lots where you wouldn't feel too odd on your own), and a few shops to stroll around for the day.
The coast road from both hotels to Tramore is beautiful.

So, I'm searching and plotting myself, will let you know if I see anything else nice. I'm not into dauntingly super classy/modern places as you have probably sussed, so my choices are likely to be cosy but traditional hotels.
For example I like this hotel's location, but the presentation would totally turn me off.

I was in Benner's in Dingle once, and looooved the comfort and style of the rooms. No spa there that I know of, but plenty of restaurants to dine on your own, and nice drives during the day (potters here I come !)... hhhmmm.... that's a definite contender for me. http://www.dinglebenners.com/
