Inda was in Galway yesterday saying what a great thing the digital games industry is:

“I very much welcome EA and BioWare’s decision to locate its customer service centre here in Galway and the additional 200 jobs announced today. The Programme for Government highlights the digital game industry as a particular priority area for growth and the presence here of EA, one of the world's leading interactive games companies, will help enhance our status as a centre for the digital media sector,” said Mr Kenny.

I wonder what EA and Bioware would think of Fidelma Really Screams idea to limit the use of video games? I don't think they would be too impressed to be honest. I didn't see her in any of the media reports about the launch which is unusual because when Inda is in Galway, she is usually right beside him.

Your Taoiseach's first name is Enda ;)
Besides, Fidelma's outburst is hardly FG policy. It was a reaction to that a 20yo, of otherwise good health, died of vein thrombosis as a result from playing for many hours without break.

    Galway >> Politics

:confused:I don't think FHE's daft idea is in any way official Government policy.

So, a Fine Gaeler had an independant thought not approved by HQ and this is a problem? I cant see how this demonstrates policy confusion. Its that one particular Fine Gaeler had an opinion and voiced it. It was then promptly ignored.

Most games consoles have family options now to allow parents to limit play hours. Nintendo have prompts in game after a certain time advising players to take a break.

As others have stated, it isn't FG policy but an outburst and not only that but the games industry is very pro-active in this regard because of the concerns voiced by parents and the level of attention it gets in America.

Scholar, there is nothing confusing about it. It is an industry that provides employment in Ireland, and it is also an industry that requires an open debate on its social/health impact.

The food industry employs far more people in Ireland and also have legislation to regulate food standards, we also have open debates on those food standards.

I would suggest that you are not confused, you are just trying to score political points on a non-issue.

Well I wonder too, but because you didn't provide a link or reference, I've no idea what you are talking about. Who is this Fidelma person?

I especially like the boy was fine until he entered his teens then started seeming more aggressive so it must be the computer games line :P
