Ok so I feel that this update was a huge step backwards, with my 2010 MBP freezing on average once every 30mins, without even pushing it too hard. The most RAM it would ever be using is in Xcode

What does everyone think about this update?

I'm very happy with it. There were a few niggles at the start but they've sorted themselves out now (well, some I sorted out, but the rest came good themselves). I've a 2010 17" i7MBP with 8GB RAM, and a late 2009 MB with 2GB RAM both running Lion without any problems now. I'm just waiting to pick my moment to upgrade Parallels to v7 on my work iMac so that I can upgrade that too, using SL seems so outdated now that I've gotten used to Lion! :D

Have you updated to 10.7.1? What type of crash is it? Beachball? Kernel panic?

I experienced quite a few stability problems with Lion myself until I did a clean install. I wouldn't recommend migrating applications and user account over either as they may migrate the source of the problem over as well - as happened in my case.

    Yeah its a beach ball...

Ill see about doing a clean install I just don't have the time and i don't want to have to transfer all my data back.

I went about 2 weeks there without a crash but went to open excel last night and the beach ball appeared and the system seemed to go into lockdown. No other apps were open.

We're still waiting on a proper stability update 2 months after release.

Hate the horrible grayness of the GUI, what was wrong with aqua blue!?

Yes, and I had the developer previews of Lion in mid-may. None of them were as bad as the GM final release!

Your issue is probably due to the upgrade or some conflict that was migrated over from your old install. Disable all third party kernel extensions and background processes. If you use Safari, stop using it for a while and see if the problem goes away. I was experiencing very similar problems with spinning beach ball crashes, which have stopped since I did a proper clean install.

Disable all third party kernel extensions and background processes

I didn't know you could do that, thanks!

    How do I do it?!?!

You can check what third party kernel extensions are installed by typing this into Terminal:
    kextstat | grep -v com.apple

I find that it drops wireless connection a lot on a new-ish iMac.

I haven't had any issues with Lion and I updated my (new) iMac as soon as it came out.
A side issue I had on Saturday was I went to install Xcode (that I had downloaded from the app store in the summer) for a look-see. The install seemed to kinda hang and then a message came up about deleting Steam files (wtf?)... external HD was very active so I did a quick Google about Xcode hanging at install from another machine and saw mention of some people having issues with their systems being wiped!
I quickly did a hard shutdown and sure enough my system HD was practically empty and needed a re-install but luckily I was able to restore from a time machine backup.
Mad stuff though that something like this is known yet still exists.

Liked some of the new gestures but the slow down in booting, shutdown and in some apps annoyed me so rolled back to SL yesterday...

I believe upgrading ram helps lion run better. i'll be doing this soon, although its funny to think you'd need 8gb of ram for an os to run smoothly :D

and yeah +1 on the boot time increase. probably the main thing I notice.

Lion was stuttering and crashing along when I first installed it on my 13" MPB. A clean install and a RAM upgrade later, and it's running great for me now. RAM is dirt cheap at the moment. 8GB only cost about €35 from Crucial. At a price like that, there's no reason not to max it out.
