    Where is 'the public record'?

I am interested in reading minutes of local (county & city) council meetings, & seeing who voted for what.

I am also interested in certain court cases , including coroner's courts.

Are any of these records available online?

    All advice appreciated,

    Thanks,

    FoxT

The public record is in many different places. For the courts records you'd need to go to the court, for the county councils you'd need to go to them and for government decrees you need to go to Iris Oifiguil. There is no central database as far as I'm aware.

Iris Oifiguil is available online though.

Call the city or county manager's office and ask for specific minutes or reports referenced in minutes. They should email a copy.

For the others courts.ie is your starting point. Don't expect much online.

True - last time I looked, very few of the councils made minutes or decisions available online. Something we should push for, really.

Dublin City have a strange habit of putting them on odd servers, so the old "searchword" site:dublincity.ie fails to find them. Lately there's been quite a lot up on dublinfirebrigade.ie

The televised meetings are fantastic though. All councils should be forced to do this imo.

    Fingal CC is pretty good

The minutes are usually one or two months behind but go back to 1999
    http://www.fingalcoco.ie/Minutes/

You can also view recordings or watch live webcasts of the area and full council meetings

    http://www.fingalcoco.public-i.tv/core/

Interesting to watch the meetings online and observe who in which party doesn't like each other, they get very defensive on who has control of what patch in each ward. The Fingal media centre has the recent presentation from the lesser known "kook" presidental candidates.

    Many have them online

You are unlikely to find anything but summary records of District Court cases, unless a newspaper wrote them up. The other courts will likely have material on www.courts.ie or various legal websites.
    including coroner's courts.
You can apply to the coroner for a copy of the decision (only?) for about €7.

Minutes would normally need to be approved at the following meeting before they are published.

I'm glad to hear that - it has been a while since I last looked for them!

AFAICS:The public record of council decisions is reported in the local newspapers.

Accordingly this thread should be titled: Why aren't Google scanning enough local papers... You'd think that if they can record what's happening in my bedroom window in streetview that they could also record who has agreed to fix the pothole their Red Astra is driving over at the same time.

Eh, no. A paper may run a few short stories based on the meetings, but they are only going to report on the juicy bits. Minutes of ordinary meetings could run to 10 pages and for certain meetings much longer.
