Just got one of these and during low volume times or when people would not be speaking there is a loud'ish humming/buzzing from it, I'm watching the utd game now and its fine becasue there is a constant sound but if I'm watching a movie and it goes silent for a couple of seconds all I can hear is this buzzing sound its the same during adverts, quiet annoying just wondering is there a simple fix or list of things I can try? thanks,

sounds like a ground loop problem, try earthing the box. had a similar problem at my parents house when their cable connection was also connected, happens due to different earth potentials, earthing the box solved it.

For a complete noob like me could you explain how to earth it, sorry if its an obvious question but I actually dont know, thanks very much for your input.

By the way I mentioned it was annoying when people wernt speaking but during post match analysis last night it was terrible, any help would be great, thanks again,

firstly make sure that the volume is all the way up on the dreambox and use the tv remote to control the volume, this will help.

If you do want to earth the box the easy safe way would be to use something like this and then connect a wire to a metal point on the box. or to a bonding point on distribution system.

If you have any doubts connect a professional

Could be the internal fan. I had to remove the internal fan in my hd800 after it started to make noise, I then used a laptop cooler underneath to keep it cool instead. You can buy replacement fans for a few euro. It's very simple to take out the fan in the dm800, it's just a small plug, not sure about your model?

No its definitely not the fan, it comes out through the speakers.

Is it a genuine DM500 OR a clone, the clones are poorly made copys and any I have seen had a hum of them, changing for a good quality scart helped a few.

I have the option of going back to your man I got it off and paying an extra €50 for a Technomate. I dont think I'd be capable of trying to ground the Dreambox, so after I try a high quality scart should I make the change if its still the same?? According to google Dreambox 500-S hasnt been made in 2 years so???
