Just wondering what everyones opinion of Todd Clever is, I personally didnt know much about him before the world cup just thought he had a great look ala Chabal, But after seeing him live now, I think hes really been one of the top 3 back rows so far in the tournament, Wondering why nobody ever took a chance on him in europe

He has been making a decent salary in the NPC, S14 and now playing money ball in Japan. I'm sure some teams have looked at him but a lot of players look good in the WC but their weaknesses are exposed in the rough and tumble of weekly top flight competition. The likes of Emerick for example, another USA star, played for some time in the Pro12 and was very average.

I'd be a more interested in Gresev, the Russian No. 8 who is still playing in Russia. I wouldn't be surprised if he was snapped up by a team in France. But, like many, he is playing to put himself in the shop window so who knows how he would perform if he had to try and reach that level every week.

He previously played super rugby and couldn't really get his game, IIRC

Ulster could do worse. They've no expert breakdown men, he'd add a much needed new dimension to them at 7. Having Danielli and Payne taking up NIQ spots when they're top heavy with good back 3 players makes no sense when they need a quality no7

Clever was great for the Lions every time I saw him. Pretty sure he played a good bit that season and he was injured for a while during it.

He has been very good, but also very lucky not to get cited for two very late shoulder charges during the tourny.
