Same here got the same one, have to attend this week, I guess it will be absolute utter bollox, as FAS are involved I'd expect nothing less  most likely just provide info about finding suitable work, even when there is none, and the usual inept services available to us. Don't miss it though cos they are looking for any excuse to cut people off, it'll only be for an hour or 2. If there were jobs out there we wouldn't need this ****e

You will meet a fas officer who does like an interview to see what your previous work was and where best to catagorise you on their system. You will be in and out in ten minutes. But be warned...now that your on the system IF you get a letter about doing a course or a suitable job placement and turn it down that now goes back to the social welfare and they will cut/suspend your payments if you dont give a good enough reason as to why you turned it down.

The procedure in Fás is as follows:

1). You go in and say, I'm looking for work and immediately, you get a big
    office
2). You get a company car - usually an Audi
3). You get a credit card with at least a €75k limit
4). You get to go to Florida (and bring the wife and your friends) a few
times a year (business class of course - no slumming it in Fás)
5). The wife and her friends get free hairdos while you are brought playing
    golf
6). When its time to retire you get a big payoff and also you get to keep
    the Audi (so mind it)

If anyone gives you any guff about any of the above - you just say "I'm entitled to all that" - Problem sorted! Enjoy! :D

i went into fas a few weeks ago as i want to do a BOSIET and MIST course for offshore work, i wasn't expecting much the way things have gone but was surprised when they said they would cover 1 of the courses and i should try the social welfare to cover the other, so i went into see a social welfare officer and they are covering most of the other 1,

It costs 1300 euro to do the courses and between the social and fas they will cover 1150 of it,

I didn't think they would cover that amount i taught they did away with it so am well happy with it.

Did it today, it's just a group meeting and they show ya some slides about the options they have available, lasts for an hour and they give you a date and time for a follow up interview.....

That's very interesting. They told me I could do a course last year, to choose the course but by the time I decided which one to do a month later (which cost less than E1300), they informed me "there was no funding left". Think I'll be having a word with same people. I found the staff to be completely useless and disinterested I might add. I'm sure there's some good staff in there ... somewhere. Like the social welfare offices, it appears to me to be "how lucky you are to get certain people" to look after your case.
