What tv to buy? LED LCD or Plasma???

Hay guys looking at buying a new tv, my question is whether to go for LED, LCD or Plasma???

Now I do like my crisp clear display which would seem to suggest I go with LED but Ive noticed that LCD and Plasma deliver decent performance when playing bluray(which I will also be buying).

Am I best to safeguard and future proof for the increasing numbers of HD chanels that are becoming available or is it not worth it?

From the models Ive been looking at the difference I'd be spending between LED and LCD/Plasma is around 200e which I dont mind as long as its worth it!

Opnions, own experience or technical talk welcome biggrin.gif

think led is the way to go

with energy savings your tv could be paid off in 4 years

they generally use 70% less energy

got a harvey norman guide through the door the other day explaining the energy savings

interesting and worth a read all the same

I would go for LED also, but because of superior picture quality especially when viewed at an angle.

I am not disputing that they use 70% less than a plasma, but I would think you would have to watch a serious amount of TV for it to pay for itself in 4 years!

I had a look to see how they arrived at that figure and could not find it.

To me 7 hours a day seems like a lot, mind you I have not had a TV in over a year.

LG 22 inch TV is Tesco for 129 euro (reduced from 200 euro).

Bought 1 yesterday for the guest bedroom.I haggled it for 120 euro.

    Brillliant TV for the money.

LED tv`s at present are LCD, the non led ones are LCD ones backlit by flourecent tubes, where as the LED ones are also LCD, but backlit by LED`s.

True LED tv`s will be the OLED ones, where the pixels are actually made up from LED`s, rather than the LCD pixels of current LED tv`s.

And if even 1 LED is dodgey or fails than you have an absolye sh1t picture/screen to look at.

Theres a fair few TVs failing these days.so you just got to be carefull what you buy when it comes to LED.

Was that a one off offer or would they still have some and where was that tesco? I'm looking for a small tv myself.

I never even heard of OLED!

I never even heard of OLED!

Its a tiny LED with an organic compound in it. They make up the actual pixels and so the actual pixels emit the light, so no backilghting needed. So the display can actually be made like a sheet of paper, although an actual tv would want some syubstance to it.

Look up OLED tv. Some mobile phones etc use it in their screens, and smaller tv`s. i think it was a bit slower progressing to the bigger screen sizes until recently. I have not kept up with it recently myself.

I've noticed that the power usage gap has been closing.

a 6 series LG LED 47" TV 200HZ will use 120W (active 3D) where as a 50" plasma THX active 3D LG tv 600HZ SF will use 180W, not the big gap it was. I recently went for the 50" Plasma, based on budget (they were the same price) and quality of extras, the Plasma is THX 3D certified

there was very little in it, I think that if I was getting below 50" I'd go for LED, if i had money to burn i'd get one of the super slim OLED units, but Plasma has come on and has a place IMO.

    Interesting.

Why, more bang for your buck?

Just curious, in terms of what?
