I've been trying for hours on the net for a "Father of the Groom speech" specifically, but to no avail. All the sites I get might have 1 brief reference to the subject, but after that its all Best mans, father of bride, etc.

I'm just trying to get a feel for what i might say, then I'll prob write my own. Anyone got a link that might help?

Just make sure you don't google the word 'google'

You will break the internet if you do.

"Son, when a man meets a woman he may start to notice certain feelings... " and take it from there.

I will write it for you

Good luck(brides name) and when you have lived with the wee fecker for as long as I have, you will know all about him. Enjoy your night folks.

No charge for that by the way.

Will a father of the bride speech not suffice if you just swap the gender and manly up all the "beautiful" references? ;)

    It's not hard

You need to talk about how your son realy wanted the bride's sister but she wouldn't have him so he settled for the ugly sister
The sister has good farmland and many acres so it'll do

Bringing up the sons infidelity to her and his many conquests is optional

Complain loudly about how much this is costing and the envelopes better be nice and heavy with bank notes or GTFO

Saying you would have preferred a letter from the taxman to hearing about the cost of the wedding is a good comparison

Blast the hotel management and staff

Comment you don't know half the people there, who are all these freeloaders eating a meal you are paying for

    Have I missed anything?

... and he might want to put those feelings inside her" ..and take it from there.

I find this speech works in most situations:

OP, just give Enda Kenny's speech from a few months ago when Obama was here. That should suffice...

My uncle did this at his son's wedding,

He asked the bride and groom to sit beside him, then told the groom to place his hand over the brides hand on the table.

He then said "Son I wanted you to have the upper hand one last time. Congradulations on your wedding."

You have to mention the bed-wetting, torturing of family pets, and the night when he came home with a lady-boy and two prostitutes.

"It's a perfectly normal, natural thing."

Or pretty much anything Noah Levenstein says in the first three American Pie films.

Don't worry about it, wellcome the bride to the family, say a few things about your son and take it from there. You don't have to be Obama.

    Enjoy the day.

I remember my dad was very anxious about making his speech at my wedding, just before he stood up to make his speech, the priest who married us gave him this advice .......

"Don't worry Mr. X, a good speech should be like a mini-skirt: short enough to be interesting, but long enough to cover the bare essentials" :pac: :pac: :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,132 ✭✭✭novarock

my dad just said the usual thanks, but talked a bit about our relationship, and told a story of something stupid i did at 14... Worked a treat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,008 ✭✭✭reap-a-rat

"If I could just say a few words... I'd be a better public speaker."

    *crowd laughs, rapturous applause*

Ah no, the weddings I've been to, the dad of the groom basically welcomed everyone to the joyous occasion, welcomed bride-ie into the family and wished the two the best, all the happiness etc and then said he hoped everyone would enjoy the day! Don't fret too much about it, at the end of the day not many give a shít about the speeches anyway unless it's hilarious or ya fúck it up somehow :)
