i've been ringing around insurance company's trying to get a cheap quote for a 1986 nissan sentra and they all coming back with around the same figure of €450 tpft which i think is way over priced as i am 39 with 6 years no claims and a full licence, any sugestions what to do, they are telling me its because of the age of the car but surley with an nct that should'nt be an issue.

Hi OP- do you have a car already insured? Sometimes insurers will only provide you with a 'classic car' quote if you have a daily runner already insured. If you don't they may assume you will use the classic as your daily car and charge you accordingly.

    Not sure apart from that...

I'd be fairly sure those are standard, rather than classic, quotes. All you can really do is shop around for the best price for the cover you want and then pay that. If you pass the IAM test you'll get 30% off your premium with Aviva.

Join the Irish Vintage Society (25€ I think) then insure your car through them, it will be about €140 or so. FBD do the insurance, I have a 1990 car insured this way.

Yeah, I did a bit of research into this last night, The IVS will get you cover from FBD for E133 + E25 Membership. Provided you have another main car policy.

you should deffo do this, and then you Should DEFFO take the sentra to some shows, stuff like that is Cool and adds some colour beside all the Mercs and Beetles

I think you will find that most reguilar policies are only for cars upto 20 years old - then you're in unknown ground, especially for daily driver cover.

    a) It's Ireland.
    b) Everyone is getting humped far more this year than last.
    c) TFPT can be more expensive that Comp. Strange, but true.

Never found that yet but usually there is very little in the difference between fully comp and TPFT.

your mistake was telling that it was going 2 be a daily driver ,
so no classic sub 5000 miles policy for you
you use it every day they will price it as a normal policy

you will need a policy on another car in your name ( in some cases named driver will do ) otherwise its a normal use policy

It is not a mistake to tell the truth to an insurance company.

Well that depends daily driver means 10'000 plus miles a year to them, even if you only do 4000.
Doing 4000 miles a year and driving it every day is still allowed on a 5000 miles max classic policy is it not. In that situation you can either say "I'll be doing 4000 miles per annum" or "it'll be my daily driver" both are true but one attracts a far higher premium.

Did you decide to sell it in the end up?
