Anyone know a way to watch online videos that use silverlight on ubuntu 11.04 ?
I have installed moonlight but it doesnt work. I'm trying to find rugby highlights and games but IRFU is taking them down from everywhere because they show them on their website so I'm goin round in circles trying to get round it.

    Website is

    http://www.rugbyworldcup.com/video/index.html?v=2055206

If anyone on linux could try it and if it works for them let me know what they are using I would be very grateful. Thanks.

I gave up on Moonlight for this very reason some time ago ..... it is always (of necessity I guess) behind the Silverlight release and so inevitably I hit sites that used to display that wouldn't.

It is less frustrating - for me - to not use it at all.

It's never worked for me. I just ignore it.

Today we want to present you our latest project Pipelight, which allows to run your favorite Silverlight application directly inside your Linux browser. The project combines the effort by Erich E. Hoover with a new browser plugin that embeds Silverlight directly in any Linux browser supporting the Netscape Plugin API.

Would it work in Mint? it's the only thing holding me back from moving to Linux full time at home.

If it works, it will work in Mint.

No Silverlight is preventing you from moving to linux full time? I don't know what sites you are going to but I am sure you can find ones just as good which dont use silverlight. I used to like to browse the sky news website, but now Im on linux at home and at work so the sky website is unuseable. Their loss.

Im sure the benefits of switching to linux outweigh the benefits of what ever website you use which prefers a closed source proprietary CMS.

I use my brother's SkyGo account (account sharing is allowed by Sky) and I watch a lot of Sports using it. There is nothing "just as good" unless I move to illegal streaming, which isn't as good quality anyway.

And there are 0 benefits to me not watching Sport

    :)

Watching televised sport (especially football) can be an expensive habit.

I use Ubuntu at home, with a Windows XP Virtual Machine for watching Sky Go. Sky are so backwards in their approach to online video that you sometimes need to install an old version of Silverlight to watch their stuff, even in Windows. If a viable Linux Silverlight alternative comes out, and is reliable, it'd be great to be rid of Windows completely.

not for me! my brother lets me log into his SkyGo on a gues account at no charge to me at all.

I looked into the VM route, but decided it would be just easier to boot into Windows when I needed it

Well lucky you! Costs your brother though.

You should have a look at running XP in VirtualBox, its extremely handy. Saves dual booting which I dont trust at all, had too many problems with grub and Windows bootloader over the years. Nice one on the free Sky Go though, got a similar setup myself with my parents's Sky account. Cant beat it :)

Not any more than not letting me use it. :)

Or I could just boot into Windows when needed.

I'm not some Linux enthusiast, I like it because it has rescued more than one computer for me.
