Aer Lingus fee to change time

This will teach me not to be organised and book early.

I've booked return flights Dublin to Manchester , flight going out is on 30th December. At the time of booking we wanted the morning flight not only was it cheaper but it gave us more time but this time of year is normally very busy for my Husband and we had to book the afternoon flight so he could work that morning.
Recently the business he works for closed down so obviously he wont be working that day and now we'd love to change to the earlier flight. I've looked on the website and it seems to be €40 pp to change , as theres 4 of us going the cost to change is more or less the cost of the flight.
Does anyone know if there is a way around this charge or are we stuck with our original flight. I was thinking because the flight we booked was and still is dearer than the one we want that we might be able to do something. Well more I was hoping.

If it turns out we have to stay on the original flight then so be it but the earlier one would suit us so much better.

Speaking of fees, I've booked a flight to Madrid and can't go now. They tell me on the phone that they can refund just €17 to me. If I "miss" the flight on the day (heaven forbid), how would a refund work?

You only get the taxes back minus an "admin fee" when you cancel. No portion of the actual fare is refunded. If you're just a no show I don't think you even get the taxes back.

Check out the website for details.

I missed a flight before and was able to claim back the fees. The flight cost €1200 and they were allowing me to claim €40 plus admin fee..didn't even bother claiming in the end because I was so p1ssed off (I regret it now even though it was only €40, it was my €40)

How about having a doctor's cert? I'm not making this up, the real reason is medical

Then try your travel insurance. Aer Lingus won't care why you're not flying.

    Try ringing the helpdesk.

They might let you change for a tenner.

When you booked you were offered two options, (A) Low fare with no changes allowed, or (B) FLex fare with whay ever changes you want, so i would think no is the answer, hope I'm wrong though.

Flexfare would have cost an extra €400 each so even if we did change I'd rather pay the €40 fee each.
