Im just about to go and do mine.

All i do is fill the sink with very hot water, soak my head in that. Lather it up with "King of Shaves" cream/foam. Shave the head just like you shave your face. You dont need 2 mirrors, use your "other" hand to feel around for anything you might miss at the back of your head.

Do you use like a gillette mach 3 or something similar to this.

also do you use some kind of moisturiser once you have the head shaved

A Gillette Fusion, i do my neck and head at the same time and leave the beard.

I used to use a regular Gillette aftershave balm. I use some of my daughters "after-bath" moisturiser now, it smells good and gives a nice shine too :)

One thing im a little concerned about

If i do start shaving my head completely bald this way and do it every 4 or 5 days, will it affect the growth of my hair, can it make me lose my hair / make my hair line receed more to the back of my head. does it do any kind of damage to your hair growth? i do have very thin hair, thats the reason i shave it now but id still like the option of having a full head of stubble like i do now

Im going bald myself :) Hence me shaving it.

I havent noticed any lack of growth around the sides or at the back though.

I've been shaving my head really tight with a clippers for years and have shaved with a razor a few times. The only thing to be aware of is the cold. It mightn't seem like much but that little fraction of a milometer of hair makes a huge difference to keeping your head warm, and the first time I shaved my head with a razor the one ting that struck me was how cold my head felt in comparison to the tiny bit of fuzz that I had.

Shaving its self is easy, just a standard razor with foam is all I used, I kind of followed the razor around with my other hand to make sure I didn't miss anything, no need for an extra mirror. A quick feel of the head after you're finished will let you know anyway it's much more obvious than missing a patch with a clippers.

Invest in a Wahl Balding clipper, its as close to bald you will get without a razor. I'd say as good as one days growth after shaving with a razor.

I haven't tried it yet but this looks interesting http://www.headblade.com/

There are videos of people using it on youtube.

that clippers looks interesting, the wahl one,i had one similar years ago but it broke

also that head blade car thing kinda looks like a gimmick to me, i cant se eit being any better then just using a mach 3 or soemthing

is there any irish stores or websites that would cater to special stuff for shaving ones head and face,id like to stock up on moisturisers / soaps / bowls / razors and various other items

up till now ive only ever use gilette razors and gillete shaving gel

I use Mach 3 blades, which has the battery powered pack on it. It seems to give a better shave. Use the Gillette shaving cream.

Slightly wet your head, and then work the shaving cream into your skin like it was shampoo for best results.

Two taps running: cold tap trickling to clean hands, and hot tap for the blade. It gives a better finish if you use the hot blade.

One mirror is needed, imo. Use the hand not holding the razer to check if there is any stubble left: the mirror may lie, your touch won't.

Finally, ensure your blade is always reasonably sharp. If it goes blunt, and it encounters a spot, it'll snag the spot, and rip some skin off with it. A sharp blade will just slice the spot off. Cold water until the bleeding stops, and/or tissue soaked in cold water held against your head for a few minutes will stop the bleeding.

NOTHING, it seems, will give you a tighter shave than a blade.

i had long hair for most of the last ten years but I got it cut last year. I'm so out of the habit of regularly attending a hairdressers that I either go every couple of months and just get a grade(blade?) 2 or 3 or I just leave it until I get a beatles style and force myself to pay for a haircut

i was thinking about getting an electric razor thing myself for doing it at home, rather thabn paying a tenner every couple of months. I don't want it shaved bald so shaving isnt what I want, but I don't know what to look for. anyone got any reccomendations about a good (cheap enough) razor/shaver/device to get for a simple short haircut at home?

I was in the same position as you, shaving the head for years and about 2 months ago I went for the fully shaved look. I have to say I way prefer the fully bald look. I use a second mirror, just a hand held one along with the bathroom mirror. I use disposable razors and shave about once a week. id definitely recommend giving it a shot.
