Is there a Bus Eireann annual ticket?

Hi guys, with college only just having started... I'm already sick of having to rummage for the correct amount for my bus fare every morning. Not only is it already making a dent in my budget for the week, but, it's also becoming just general pain to do.

I'm just wondering if there's an annual Bus Eireann ticket that I could purchase?? It'd be better to get it over with in lump sum so I'd be better able to keep track of things etc
And also, I'd find hopping on the bus much easier

Not for students and afaik the only yearly Bus Eireann ticket available is the taxsaver tickets only available through a persons employer(Employer buys tickets at a reduced rate and deducts the cost from the employees salary).

As a student you can buy a ten journey student ticket, or a ten journey adult ticket if there is no student fare for that journey!

    http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=234#student_journey_weekly
    Student 10 Journey Weekly Tickets
Student 10 Journey Weekly Tickets are issued to students aged 16 years and over on production of valid Bus Éireann Record Card or current International Student Identity Card (ISIC) or valid Student Identity Card issued by a recognised third-level College in the Republic of Ireland. A full list of colleges are available whose Student Identity Cards will be recognised by Bus Éireann for entitlement to student fares. Apprentices over 16 and under 23 years of age may be issued with Student 10 Journey Weekly Tickets on production of valid Bus Éireann Record Card.

If you said where you were travelling to and from someone may be able to advise differently.

It would be useful to know where you are travelling between.

    Generally student tickets are weekly/monthly.

Thanks guys, that's a pity about there being no annual ticket though :(
I'll be traveling from Ratoath to dublin city centre everyday and the return fare ends up being close enough to 7euro. It's almost 5euro single...

I know about the 10 journey ticket, but, I just wish there was a yearly one. Would be so much handier!!

Cheers for the replies though guys :)

The Student 10 Journey ticket costs €29.45 online.

An adult point to point monthly ticket costs €140 and annual €1,680 (no student options available).

There is also the Adult Medium Hop weekly ticket that covers all Dublin Bus services, Bus Eireann services and Iarnrod Eireann services within the area below. It costs €54 per week.

    Bus Eireann Boundaries

Irish Rail Boundaries: Gormanston, Kilcock, Sallins & Naas and Kilcoole.

That Bus Eireann Boundaries page - when it says 'Not Valid on Bus Éireann Services' does it mean not valid on the following services? i.e not valid on Kildare, Wicklow etc?

It is referring to the Short Hop Bus and Rail ticket. It is not valid on Bus Eireann services, but only Dublin Bus and Irish Rail.

The Medium, Long and Giant Hop tickets are all valid on Bus Eireann Tickets.

Not Valid on Bus Éireann Services only refers to Balbriggan, Maynooth and Kilcoole - it is badly laid out.

Balbriggan, Maynooth and Kilcoole are in the Dublin Bus franchise area, so Bus Éireann can't do trips that are wholly within those boundaries, i.e. pick-up and set-down. However they can still pick-up outside the zone and setdown inside or vice versa.

Balbriggan, Maynooth and Kilcoole are the boundaries of the Short Hop Ticket on Irish Rail services - hence they are shown on the zonal map.

That is not correct. There are no "Franchise Areas" only historical legacies of pre-CIE operational boundaries. The above restriction is a reference to the Short Hop tickets which are only valid on IE and DB. The Medium, Long and Giant hop are also valid on all BE services that stop within the zones.

Bus Eireann commuter services do have some cross-over points with Dublin Bus. Balbriggan and the old N1 as far south as Blakes Cross are served in both directions by the 101. Kilmacanogue, Kilpedder and NewtownMK are served in both directions by the 133. Celbridge on the 120/123 and Rathcoole (N7) are also served by both.

They've also got an irritating LACK of crossover at other boundaries, e.g. Maynooth is outbound pickup/inbound set down only on the 115 meaning that someone coming in to Dublin on an Expressway that doesn't serve Maynooth can't get a through ticket using the 115...

Does Bus Eireann still operate monthly adult tickets for commutes from:

    Navan to Dublin ?

I've been on their website and can only see mention of ten journey tickets. And if the monthly ticket option still exists, does anyone know the cost?

Thanks in advance...weekly fuel bill driving is getting ridiculous.

Thanks. Had a look at that earlier, but the monthly options on there appear to cover options within Dublin and other major cities. Or have I missed something:confused:

From the BE website a weekly ticket Navan-Dublin will be €80 but they are valid on Irish Rail commuter services also.

No problem. Two things to bear in mind:

    1) The tickets can be bought at face value
    2) If your employer is willing to participate in the taxsaver scheme then the effective cost of the ticket will be reduced by your marginal tax rate and PRSI and USC.
