Don't have a clue if there's an organised event in Dublin as I always return West for Xmas but I love going for a run on the day itself - Empty roads and eerie silence - can't beat it!

It also helps to get off the couch from the coma-inducing xmas TV 'specials'!

There is usually a GOAL mile at various locations on Christmas Day. No other races as far as I know, but I seem to remember a 5k on Stephen's day somewhere?

A race i've always wanted to do is the straight mile in Anne's Park run by Raheny AC, never in Dublin for xmas though.

Goal Mile will be on in various locations around the country, the one on the UCD track is always good craic and has a great atmosphere! Do a lap around the trails in UCD while you are there to make up the 10k!

My local club (Inbhear Dee AC) host the Streets of Wicklow 5k around Wicklow town on Stephens day also (well last year with the snow it was put back), Great to run off all the turkey from the day before, and its usually not too early in the day, in case you are hanging from christmas day itself ha!

Last Christmas was my first one as a runner. My brother-in-law was running in a race on Christmas Day (GOAL mile) in his home town, so I said I'd run it with him. "It's only one mile" I thought.
When we drove down it was -13C, yes, seriously! By the time we got there and got out of the car it had "warmed up" to -9C.
I think I had four layers on my torso, a fleece scarf and hat, shorts and training pants and (of course) runners. Oh and fleece gloves too. We tried jogging up and down the path to warm up, but it was pretty icy so we jogged on the spot a lot. The main street got closed and we ran from the only set of traffic lights, down the main street, around a traffic cone and back. The road was really slippy and my throat and lungs were sore from breathing in the freezing cold air, so I had to breath through my scarf.

We each got a free bottle of orange flavoured drink (yuk!) and then ran back to my BIL's house, about 2k. By the time we got there the orange drink had turned to ice lumps even though I was holding it in my gloved hand.
Oh, I got third by the way :-)

Fields of Athenry 10k is usually run on Stephen's Day, but it's nowhere near Dublin unfortunately!

Sounds like great craic! At least it was memorable!

Bray Runner's always go for a trot in Shanganagh on Christmas morning - all are welcome - I'll post closer to the time, it was at 9:30 last year in the snow!

Baldyman 5 mile Beach race is usually held in Tramore on 27th Dec. Pretty weatherproof - provided you can get there through the snowdrifts:D

I know, not in Dublin and not on the 25th:o (and not 10k either:o)

I did the Goal mile last year in Tallaght AC
Track was covered in snow so we ran around a path on the outside that they had shovelled some of the snow off. It was around -14c
I was with my neighbour and ended up hanging around for a while after, they were taking photos and giving out medals.
I nearly froze to death. I had to get into a hot bath when I got home- kicking my then 1 year old in the process.....
I subsequently spent 3 days in bed with fever, was on antibiotics and steroids and generally had a terrible Christmas.
Who knows maybe the illness was coming anyway?
I'll run again this Christmas day though- life's too short to worry about getting sick from the cold/wet/wind. We'd never get any exercise done in this country if that was your perspective.

For me personally Christmas day is a family day so no running. I always wondered if the GOAL mile was on a different would they get a bigger crowd?
